Rap really has become clown music lately, its nothing like it was even 10 years ago.
Agree. I use to love rap before it turned to pop.
We had BIG (the best), 2PAC, Eminem, Dre, Snoop, DMX, Wu Tang, Nas, Red Man, Lauryn Hill, etc. The 90s really were the golden age for rap.
We still got Em but I feel like he past his peak 10 years ago. He hasn't done anything real good in 5+ years... like Jay Z. And when he raps these days it sounds like he's rapping the same song over and over with different words. He said that himself in his most recent track (which was shit). And when you go as mainstream as he is it's hard to stay relevant unless you keep collab'n with younger artists. I just see Em at 43 moving to the legacy stage of his life aka retired.
Dre's just producing. He'll never stop that and can stay relevant as long as he wants. Will prob be releasing new shit when he's 80.
The rest, Snoop, DMX... as Timberlake said to TI "just dead and gone". Jay Z I think will fade out like Em.
So all we're really left with are Kanye, Lil Wayne & Drake? LOL. I have no fucking clue where Drake even came from. Like 1 day he was a noname. Nobody fucking knew him. The next day he strikes a deal with Sprite. Suddenly his face is all over YT. After that he was famous. Which is why I don't drink Sprite anymore.
Then there's the young up & comers like BankRoll Fresh, DRAM, Cousin Stizz, Maxo Cream... I'm c&p these stupid fuckn names from complex cause I have no idea who any of them are.
The real obvious issue is I don't follow rap like I use to. I'm only 33 but the older I get the harder it is to follow younger dudes. Cause when I think of "rap" I think of just 1 person, BIG. When I think of a truly authentic rap song, I think of "Gimmie The Loot." That 1 song represents everything rap was intended to be. Hard as fuck, little to no instrumentals, just a fat angry fuck on the mic with the meanest voice & flow I ever heard shouting about killing pregnant women, cops, everyone.
And ultimately I blame the 2nd best rapper who ever lived (PAC) for raps demise. Cause he couldn't keep business and personal life separate. He literally killed rap with his 1 track "Hit Em Up." He was just a loud, dramatic, egotistical 120lb punk who turned the whole East Coast on his ass & got himself killed. Then BIG who was a really humble and talented dude gets killed over nothing. It should have been PAC, Suge and P Diddy who died. BIG never wanted anything to do with the drama, tried to stay out of it but PACs dumb ass just couldn't STFU.
