Best Processor ?

That's a subjective question. It all depends on what type of things you expect from your computer.
For example, I've got a Dual Core 2.4 Ghz desktop which you wouldn't really think would be all that quick.
However, I bought and installed a top of the line used video card that easily made my computer a minimum of 20 times faster and that's on the conservative side.
I don't mean that video is quicker, though it is, but that EVERYTHING sped up because the video card is handling tons of things that the processor otherwise would have to deal with.
So your question is extremely subjective.

For those that are curious and also because I'm proud to own this video card (I know it's a few years old) I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
This thing made a bigger difference in speeding up my computer than changing processors would have.

I've ordered recently the AMD Athlon II X3 445...
Now everyone has a problem with AMD (true, it has less cache than any intel, no doubt), but that triple core with 3.1Ghz per core cost my $77 bucks from new egg.... a comprable intell core 2 duo E8500 is $200+...
AMD = Bang for your buck, Intel = BIG BANG!

I think i7 is overrated...
AMD X6 109T, 6 cores...
My frnd had tested both of them as he has a computer store.
The i7 is faster.. by a very very lil margin....
AMD x6 will be around 300-400$ and i7 is $1000
I don't thinks its a good decision to shellout $600-700 more just for a nanosecond gain.
Oh, and without a gfx card, your system will be slow [not applicable if you are a unix guy who loves CLI]

funny thing is cores dont even matter. 99% of most software can only utilize 1 core.
Only video editing software utilize all of your cores.
So 6 cores is nothing but waste of money unless your using high end video editing software

I have the 1090T as well, overclocked to 4.2 with a liquid cooler and could not be happier. I was skeptical at first.....but I am glad I went that direction.

You are right, most software only utilizes one core unless it specifically made for multi core setups. However, the operating system delegates different cores to different processes, which allows for parallelism, which essentially still makes processing faster.
Most intel processors have hyperthreading, while AMD does not. That usually explains the price difference.

Most software are not made to utilize SMP architecture, but OS do have very sound SMP management these days.
I run a four core processor, Winwos 7 and almost all cores are used to same level.
Plus, I agree nobody needs to get an i7 as of now[Who uses that kind of processor?? Photoshop weenies?], but a AMD 6 core shouldn't hurt if tis under $350 or something...

TOP i3 will do just fine and you can always upgrade to a I7 if needed
