which is best version in windows 7 home basic,premium or ultimate?

....the best is ultimate, if you dont need the language pack and can live without the bitlocker and applocker, than professional should be more than enough for most, basic i wouldnt touch...

it depends on what you are using it for.

home will do for almost anyone, you wouldn't notice a difference.

Ha that's funny because my dad just got a new Mac Mini with Lion on it. As he's gotten older his computer knowledge has regressed lol...

He "accidentally" dragged Finder to the Trash Bin and it started deleting all his files. The Apple tech said "Yeah it wasn't supposed to do that."

I use Windows 7 Pro, and I love it. I haven't had any problems with it at all at home or work. I'm a full time software developer so I'm definitely a power user!

I'm using premium and I don't have any problems with it. It all depends on pricing factors and for what purpose you are going to use. For me premium works just fine.

t depends on what you want to do with the computer. If you're just thinking of normal home use - surfing the net, writing the occasional letter, kids' homework, etc - then there's not much difference between Windows or Linux. Most distros of Linux come with the Firefox browser (in my opinion, still the best) and OpenOffice (a freeware equivalent to MS Office) along with plenty of other freebies. There are also many multimedia players available free for Linux that are every bit as good as anything you can get for Windows.

However, if you like playing games then Windows is probably the better choice as there are far more games available than for Linux. Some Windows programs can be run under Linux using a program called WINE, but many don't work.

Linux is also inherently safer from viruses etc because of its permissions protocols. Some people find those a pain in the butt, but they are a good security feature and not really that much of a hassle once you get used to using them.

I do a lot of webpage coding using php and mySQL and that's easier on Linux. Once they're installed (that's a doddle), you can just use them. You don't have to run any other packages such as XAMP or JSAS each time you want to do anything.

Another reason I prefer Linux is that it's quicker on my PC than 7 was and I'm not forever having to re-boot.

I don't even use an operating system.

Linux is still a pain to use if you have old hardware - printers, wireless adapters, etc. Even some new ones don't work well with Linux.

If the product you have is very popular, then there's a chance that someone already found a way to use it with Linux. But if not, you're pretty much screwed.

On the bright side, if you have old-but-compatible hardware, Linux may run better because it uses less resources than Windows.

For me its windows 7 professional

I am waiting for the Steam to show up on linux so that i can switch from win7 to Ubuntu.
