I used GIMP for 6 years for web design and photomanipulation.
I tried photoshop last month and I don't think I'll ever go back to GIMP unless I'm on linux again. The smart objects and non-rasterized layers and shapes are a big plus in photoshop.

The best all around GRAPHIC DESIGN tool is PHOTOSHOP, especially since they included vector capabilities from ILLUSTRATOR in it. There is also a huge amount of yout@be videos to learn specific functions and task, also a huge amout of free ACTIONS, FILTERS, and PRE DESIGNED TEMPLATES. Hands down, the winner. DS

I'm just an amateur, but I just use GIMP, which can do all the things I need. For more experienced people like yourself, I'd imagine photoshop is better though.
