Paid hosting + domain = wordpress

    Free hosting + free subdomain = blogger.com ( .blogspot.com )

The blogging platform you use won't directly affect your ranking in Google.

A blogging platform saves your posts and pages into a database, and then presents them as html on the site. So what will have an impact on your ranking are:

    1. A clean html template.
    2. An easy way to change title tags, meta descriptions, H1's etc.
    3. Speed of page load.

Most people use Wordpress as it is so ubiquitous, has many plugins to help you with things like sharing, analytics, on page SEO.

Google uses speed as a factor (albeit a small one), and wordpress can get a bit slow with loads of plugins. But this can be sped up if you use a caching plugin like W3 Total cache. You can also use Cloudflare as a caching server too which will speed things up.

So I'd start with Wordpress, as it's the most used, widely supported, and developed for.

Focus on Wordpress ! go with paid hosting like hostgator and use fantastico or quick install in their cPanel for unlimited wordpress blogs/sites.

I think you mean free platforms? If so, Blogspot or Wordpress are the best free blogging platforms, in my opinion, but Squidoo and Hubpages also rank pretty good if you are willing to consider a different format.

    Thanks for your replies!

The blogs I am creating will be doubling up as Tier 1 links for my money site as well; so they will just be on free platforms with free hosting on their subdomains. I was just wondering if Google had any preference over which network it deemed in the highest regard (e.g. blogname.wordpress.com or blogname.blogspot.com or blogname.tumblr.com etc) for better SERP results.

Your question should have been "Which social media (web 2.0) platform will be best for backlinks.

And I think that the content you write and how you link to your money site are more important than the social media sites you are using.

I would recommend wordpress hosted through someone like x10hosting. They will give you free cpanel hosting and more importantly you can install plugins to improve seo. Not to mention dozzens more benefits over blogger or wordpress alone.

Save yourself a lot of headaches and host your blogs yourself and use Wordpress, prices are so reasonable and you have full control, plus the SEO resources for Wordpress are countless.

In that case you want to use all of them to throw some platform diversity into the mix. All the ones you mention rank just as easily as the next. Same old formula, onPage optimization, content, and backlinks. You can be more aggressive in the backlinking than say a self hosted site. I've used this same strategy many time with great success. Set up good quality Tier I's and rank them for related keywords which link to your money site. Not only do you get great links that will push rankings for money site, you are also setting up traffic siphons on the properties that you can either pass to your money site, or convert right there and then.

    Cheers mate.

Check out wordpress, blogspot and tumblr.

Webs.com is bound to get some sort of penalty sooner or later.
