Best advice for an authority site starting out...

So, I've got the domain, design, and a skeleton of content.


What is next? How do I start getting that SEO traffic to roll in? It's all White Hat here. Nothing but excellent content.


1. Content is King
2. Social media engagement


What next, though? A listing in the Yahoo! Directory? What are the concrete steps I should be taking? Just adding articles, blog posts, and reports?

Just continue to add content... don't do any real off site for about 80,000 - 100,000 words. You can do some minor stuff like a press release, an about.me page... things that are "announce" kind of links but you just need to hit the content hard.
 
I was just informed the Yahoo! Directory is going to shut down. What is the second best directory behind Yahoo for SEO?
 
Add more and more content, with good keywords at every article, research for them, take care to always include branded keywords (your websites name for example). Meanwhile check if your site is indexed by Google, that is if it appears in the google search, you do it like this "site: nameofsite.com" than "search". Also, promote yourself, for starters, on social networks. Organize a giveaway if it is fit for your business' field. Only after this and some months it is time to think about SEO methods. Take everything step by step.
 
Quality content is half the battle. You can use SMM and guest posting as your additional tools
 
Build relationships with others in that niche... and link to them ... and help them to link to you... Content means nothing if you don't have links...and you can build them in many whitehat ways.

That is really not very accurate information at all. An authority site can do very well with content alone and, when building an authority site, it is usually best to have NO LINKS until there is a significant amount of content up on the site.
 
Next time using the '?' so people know you are actually asking a question.
