Besides Elementor, do you guys have any go to theme recommendations?

yes, NOT elementor :D

Anyway, my favorite is Weaver Xtreme (probably because I've been using it for a decade and got used to it, but otherwise I don't think it's anything spectacular)

I don't really like Elementor a whole lot. I am starting up a blog, and was wondering before I commit to custom coding something if you guys have any recommendations for good themes. Free or Paid.
To make sure we´re on the same page, Elementor is a page builder not a theme.

Now, not quite sure if you´re looking to switch page builder or looking for a new theme but let´s touch on both. But if you say "you don´t like Elementor" there isn´t an easier way out there to build/customize a website. Elementor offers by far the easier and more user-friendly UI to build and customize beautiful and functional websites.

But, if you want to "test the waters" with something else, go check Bricks Builders.

Now, when it comes to themes the best choices on the market that offer the best balance between loading speed/performance and features/functionalities are GeneratePress+GenerateBlocks and or the Kadence themes +Kadence Blocks.

Finally, I am going to say that there´s a clear trend right now that users are moving/migrating to a "block based" theme/builders and/or moving away from page builders like Elementor.

So, if you´re willing to invest the time on learning your ways using GeneratePress+GenerateBlocks I can recommend a few resources that will turn you into a master.

I hope this helps, cheers!

Never heard about the generate blocks, can you educate me further? Are these static themes?

I am a big fan of elementor.
It's the top page builder, with 5+ million installs, not for nothing.
Get a secure and fast hosting with it.
I am a big fan of siteground.
It's lightening fast and as secure as they can get.
Last but not least I like to remind you that wordpress is not free.
TANSTAAFL.
There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
So if you gonna spend money anyway why not go with the best of the best.

GeneratePress is the theme and GenerateBlocks is the plugin developed by the same guys that comes with pre-made templates of blocks and sections.

Watch this guy´s YouTube channel, it has one of the best tutorials on how to get the most out of GP+GB.
Took some time for me to get through this series, but I watched every video in his playlist.

Let me tell you, that this got me more hyped than a girl holding my hand for the first time. This is literally, so awesome.

I would recommend starting with WordPress's default block editor. It's fast and not as bloated as Elementor.
For example, you can start with Spectra One and check how the blocks are created. Once you've learned the basics, you can create custom blocks with Advanced Custom Fields.

i heard of worpress Once you've learned the basics, you can create customwith Advanced Custom Fields and some other things

Have you checked out GeneratePress or Astra? Both are lightweight and flexible. What features are you looking for in a theme? Blogging-focused, or something with more customization options?

I have bought a lifetime and unlimited license for Divi, so I have used it for a lot of my websites. It's pretty cool, but a little bit slow.
