Hi,

I have found a nice niche with what I believe is a great keyword, let's say it's *Pick Toaster*.

The KW is available as a top level domain (pinktoaster.com)

The only competition comes from shopping directories and Price Comparison websites. There is not a single page with anything other than shopping directories.

How difficult would it be to beat these type of listings, if I set up on the top level domain a site with 5 pages of tageted unique content and do minimal link building?

Any input?

It's not too difficult most of the time but it isn't a case of saying how easy is it to beat price comparison websites? It's a lot to do with how well optimised they are, links etc.

If you don't know how to work this out by looking at a page just by the domain name and have a go - you will learn a lot more that way and will be able to answer your own question in the future.

I've seen several highly optimised, decent pr sites on aged domains, tons of content and IBL's have a heck of a time beating some of the comparison sites.

The advantage you have is that you're aiming for a single phrase, whereas most ecommerce sites hope to rank for hundreds if not thousands of products and product phrases.

The best advice is to goforit! Then, if you can't beat em, throw up a few product links with items for sale and buy your position on the comparison sites for a few cents per click. If the ROI is there, it's really not that terrible of an option, even if you're just arbitraging the traffic.

It should be pretty easy if you can get the keyword domain and few quality links.

By the way why is your user name vincentseo implies that you know something about seo.

Thank you All for your in depth response. Will let you know how well we do.
Until then ... good luck to you guys and happy IM :)
