One other tactik could be to find a program which analyze the backlinks of your competitors and do the same :)
 
If you are using wordpress for your website platform, there is a very easy way to just select the sentence you want as a <H1> tag, and on the left hand side of the tools there is a drop down menu that lets you select the format for that sentence..ie...paragraph, Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3...etc...I have found this to be much easier for us that don't know HTML all that well...
