The OP has a great and concise explanation of setting up .htaccess for a site. I'm sure this can be an area of confusion for many newbies to website creation. It sounds technical and complicated at first, but it's actually so simple once a site owner takes those specific steps. I've seen plenty of links that contain www in one instance and leave it off in the next, and this creates a somewhat unprofessional impression. When it comes to promotion and creating backlinks, I think that starting small is the way to go in order to prevent feeling overwhelmed at all the possible options. There seem to be a million places to put backlinks, but the important part is finding which ones bring the results.
