Basic SEO practices for newbies:

Hi, I think it's very useful for newbie but my question is how to know your content is good or not?

The second one is I feel it's hard to collect links from other websites. So where should I get backlinks, but not forum backlinks?

Thanks

To know whether your content is good or not, I suggest you put it in Yoast plugin. It will tell you whether you are lacking keywords or you have a problem in the synonyms and paraphrase.

But if you do not want to purchase it, the other way is to use online keyword density checker tools, just put your content in and check the density of your keyword, if it is between 1-3% your content is quite okay.

Well, what do you say about the new Google Ads policies? How much will it affect the SEO industry?

Hi there,

Develop a Buyer Persona: Getting into your customers shoes is the first step to keyword research. Remember, customers are not searching for your site. They are searching for valuable information to solve their problems. Having a buyer persona is a crucial first step to to figuring out what your best customers are typing into Google.

Narrow Down Your Keyword List: Use search volume data from Keyword Everywhere Extension or Google Keyword Planner to cut down the list. Be sure to consider commercial intent using Cost-per-click (CPC) figures as a guide.
Choose Target Keywords: Once you have a list of possible keywords & phrases, start by reviewing the first page of Google for each keyword. Look to see if there are well established sites with high quality content. Then, use data from the MOZ SEO Toolbar to see the authority and number of links competitors have. Eliminate overly competitive keywords and focus on keywords you actually have a chance to rank for. Your chosen keywords will be the centerpieces of your content.

Thank you for your reply Grey Wolf -this is very helpful thanks. So am I assuming correctly that the higher the PR of the site you're backlinking from, the better your 'link juice'? This ties in with something i am also currently struggling with, my SEO advised my landing page needs work to make it more SEO friendly, I assume this ties in with making it more closely tied with my keywords etc... Thanks

Have the best content (compared to your top competitors) and build non spammy links to that content, that's all. All the other things are minor.

Include your keywords. Structure your content correctly, make a few title headers in the content that include keywords (use header tags h1, h2, etc.), try to have a keyword density around 2% in your content, and maybe 4% for the whole page including the metatags, alt tags, anchors, etc.

^

Don't listen to the keyword density, that's not accurate. You need to check your competition and you need to add in everything.

Comments, meta, article, wholesite (widgets) etc.

You could have 10+ percent and still be okay it just depends on how.

You could shoot yourself in the foot with this in the long run.

Also you need to know what the LSI is and make sure to get LSI from
competing pages... not wikipedia, amazon etc. Real normal websites
looking to rank for these keywords.

Great post, well explained! Thanks so much!

Do you mind if I ask a quick question about sitemap.xml files?

Do you need to manually recreate your sitemap file every now and again or does Word Press do that for you as you add new pages and posts to your site?
