Basic Concept Has Me Confused

Hey all,

I've got a pretty basic question about Pagerank and backlinks. It occurred to me today that very high PR domains might have very low-PR pages. I'm wondering: If I get backlinked from, say, a PR6 blog domain but from a page that only has a PR2, what will Google credit the backlink with? Same thing applies to UGC on .edus that let students create their own blogs and do-follow blog comments, I suppose

You'll get "pagerank juice" from the PR2 page. That's why you should make sure when buying "High PR" backlinks, that the actual page has the pagerank, and not just the domain.

Perfect, thanks for the straightforward answer! I suppose the wise thing to do would be to use my .edu blogs as teir 1s, and bolster their their PRs enough that I can can transfer down some .edu link juice to my site.

This does leave me with two follow-up questions though!

1. How does anyone find pages that rank for a high PR when they often take so long to index and earn a rating?
2. Why is it advantageous to create tier 1 sites on domains that have a high PR if the PR of your own page is the only thing that really matters in terms of link juice?

2. Personally, it's not. For example, facebook.com is PR9. I could get a million links from Facebook, and it would do very little for my pagerank.

a niche related pr 2 link will help more then a non-niche related pr3.

some time even 10-20 good links are enough to rank you for mid comp keyword.

+do not sent blog comments directly to site, because many other people can found same page and it will get spammed to 1k+ comments in a month and that will get your site fucked up for spam links.

Links from .edu domains are still powerful if the actual page have lower PR. Because, the .edu domains have huge authority in google. If the domain was not widely used by public to get backlinks, then it will be more powerful.
