Paypal's ownership / top management (were) are in a delusional state of mind, thinking that Paypal is now a messaging platform, so people will actually use Paypal to spread misinformation (or hate). Or perhaps it was a stunt tried by Paypal to cyberstalk other platforms to steal more and more from their own (Paypal's) users.

PayPal has been nothing but trouble for me in the past, holding large amounts of sums from me in the past when I had clear proof I wasn't going against their TOS along with my clients backing me. It would be a great day for many people if that happened.Same thing...

It's stupid because it would have killed not only investigative journalism but also true fair unbiased reporting.
The job of paypal executives is to maximize the amount of profit for the shareholders, not to try to injecting their personal views into the company. If it was a private company you can do whatever the f*ck you want, but when you leave that sh*t out of the corporation when you have shareholders.
