Bank think I'm defrauding them...

Hello,

I'm trying to open a commercial bank account to take payments over the phone and the anti-fraud department apparently blocked it.

Basically, they blocked me over a technicality (I said "Web design" to them and "marketing" to the government. Now because of their refusal to deliver to my PO box, I changed it to my home address and they cited this as a reason for refusal.

They told me my office address was "unverifiable" and told me to get a utility bill with my name on it.

I don't pay hydro or any utility, and I really don't want to get a 38$/month phone line (with a 1 year plan to booth) which I'm not gonna use as everything is VOIP and I might be moving in two months.

Go to another bank.

Some are really funny about anything online related. Took me a few attempts (in the UK) to get one. I told them I do "consulting".

A friend who works anti-fraud told me not to do this. In Canada, he told me the banks shared data between themselves and changing my application yet again would raise a big red flag.

However, if `consulting`worked for you, I probably will give it a go eventually as I really don`t want to pay for a phone line...

I'm in the UK so I can't comment for Canada.

Maybe speak to an accountant first.

get a vonage line with local telephone number problem solved and use the as proof of address

I would recommend just going to another bank. My friend had some similar trouble with Chase bank, so he closed his account and moved to B of A and didn't have any problems after that.

Other bank, is the best solution.
