Maybe the police would do more if they got better salaries,as of July 2017 they were only starting off with 662 levs a month. The police here are much better paid, starting with equivalent to around 4000 levs when adjusted to cost of living in BG vs my city. If the police here were paid the same adjusted due to cost of living it would be $725 a month,which makes the career unattractive and demoralizing for those that do it.

I am from Macedonia, salaries are pretty much the same, police officers earn a bit more, starting from 450 eur per month but not much different. Years ago I considered Bulgaria to be more developed since you know EU and stuff, but till I found out that Bribe Auctions, Baby Trafficking from BG to GR, Dog Cruelty Tradition do exist, I got disappointed. Things like these are considered impossible here. Heck even smoking inside in a closed building is almost impossible now.
Isn’t the EU pressuring Bulgaria to do something?

Bride markets, baby trafficking are 100% gypsy practices. There is not a single Bulgarian there. Being in EU is actually part of the problem. In the city where I live there is gypsy ghetto full of illegal buildings, the major tried to get them destroyed, but got sued in European court and demolition was stopped - the EU court ordered that this illegal buildings can be destroyed only if the city find another housing for this people, however no politician would be ever elected if he provide houses for the gypsy for free - after all I pay rent / mortgage - why they should get free house? So the ghetto stays, breading more 13 years old brides, prostitutes and drug dealers.
Anyway this make the otherwise good thread too dark. Lets change the subject, ok?

I am pro EU, really like the European project, however not everything is milk and honey. Someone mention the problem with stray dogs, back in the days stray dogs was captured and if no one get them in few months from the dog shelter they was euthanized. Stray dogs was pretty rare. Now this is not possible again, thanks to the EU money poured in animal rights organizations - stray dogs are captured, neutered, and send back on the streets. Now I am not advocate of killing the dogs, but the fact is that now the streets are full of them..
