Backlinks Through Themes?

So I got myself a copy of Artisteer recently

I was thinking that a good strategy for getting backlinks would be to create a bunch of free themes, put my link in the footer, and distribute these themes around the internet.

Which sites would be good for such themes? Where can I get the maximum leverage from such a tactic? Would this tactic even be effective?

Create a theme and submit it to wordpress. Also there are lot of websites where you can submit your themes for distribution.

I was having that list of websites on my computer. But harddisk got corrupted and it is not reading the data now.

These kind of links gets you ranked high in my opinion. A lot of webmasters still don't remove the theme name from their websites.

Wordpress themes developers charges huge sum of money to design theme and if you want rights along with that theme you have to shell more than $500 for it.

I designed a theme for wordpress, with the aim of getting backlinks.

I didn't get into wordpress.com - but it got into a load of other theme sites, and I got a couple of thousand backlinks from it.

Pro: Lots of IP diversity for your backlinks

Con: Link in footer, so Google will lower the value.

It is still worthwhile, though.

I once released a free wordpress theme which linked back to my personal blog. In a short time, that blog was a PR3. It certainly has its use.

that seems a really good method to get some good back links, what about nulling some premium themes and modify the footer. anyway i'm not good in that....

That's a terrible way of getting backlinks. Not only does google devaluate external back-links in footers and side-bars (blogrolls), but they might even penalize your site for that. And think about it, in how many unrelated websites you'd be getting links from.

Post-data: ah!, Artisteer, I remember downloading it when I created my first blog, what a crappy software I find it is now t-b-h.
