Backlinks - home page vs inner pages

Is there an advantage (or any SEO benefit) to having backlinks built to your homepage compared to an inner page (blog post) if so say for example I build 10 links a month is there a ratio to homepage to inner page to follow?

The generally accepted ratio is 50/50. Although, it would make sense to tilt in favour of the homepage, when starting out your campaign. Good luck!

Built links on homepage to begin and then build on inner pages more later on

Start with building links to the homepage and relevant link to the inner page with appropriate anchor text. Maintain good internal links so the link power will pass to inner pages and will give a boost to it.

I don't think any set ratios like 100% homepage, then 50/50, then 20/80... make much sense. Just think about what seems natural to you.
If you want to get some inspiration, just check out what the first 10 results look like for a few searches relevant to your niche. Personally, I mix it up and build both.
