Backlinks from PDF documents!? Say Whaaaat?

Anyone heard of backlinks from excel files online and pdf files online? i think i read somewhere that they are extremely powerful.. any info givers?

Based on what Im seeing, sites upload informative PDFs (specially high PR and .edu sites) and links went live. Google will obviously crawl in it and counts you in.
 
Yes it's a good idea to create PDFs of some of your content with links to your money pages. Load them up to PDF directories, Mediafire etc. You get the link juice and people that down load them have links to your money sites to click.
 
And if you want to track how much traffic you are receiving from such links, then use Google's free URL builder for the same:

I do that all the time with PDFs... it's another wasy of randomizing your backlinking and making Google happy that you are have a well rounded backlinking structure.
 
in the past i used PDFs just to put content in.

analytics software told me that alot of people like to download pdf documents, i think those files help to look serious.

i'll give the backliink theory a try....
 
Yep, the backlinks most definitely count but they're not "extremely powerful." However it's a good way to scratch out a few more links from places like scribd.
 
I had added a .pdf for a product - a product manual. I did it because I saw searches coming into one of my sites related to that and was just trying to be helpful.

Well, within a week I was ranked in the top ten for the product keyword itself, but it was the pdf file that ranked for the product, not 'product manual'. My actual product page was still much lower in ranking but I had not linked back to it, just stuck the manual up as is.

So I can't say exactly the effect other than Google seemed to like that pdf and I think everybody knows what to do from there :) - experiment.
 
What a Great Coincidence! Micallef raised the same kinda question before 364 days on 5th March but in 2010 and the same question arises on 5th March 2011!!! (Well its already saturday in my timezone)

Answer to your Question: Yes, Google Does Follow and Counts links/backlinks from PDF,Excel,Word and Powerpoint Files.
 
As far as I know, Scribd is no good. They hide the links from Google bot. They cloak! Check cache for a Scribd document.
