Backlinks, better for inner articles or home page?

I have a blog site that's in the TV/movies/celebrity niche, and am looking to start building some backlinks to generate organic traffic.

Is it better to build backlinks to my homepage that targets my generic overall keywords? Or better to backlink to some of my inner article pages that target more specific keywords related to that actual post?

Yeap, backlinks should not just entirely focus on the main page as that would be unnatural.
I like 50-50 ratio, as the 50% to the inner pages would be spread out, thus I put higher weight on individual pages.
Also, make sure that you have a good internal linking plugin and also a related content plugin, and make sure you put your articles in related categories, so that both homepage and inner page's link juice can flow throughout the site nicely.

No, it should be to some of the inner pages of your website. 60-70% to home page and 30-40% to inner pages of the website. Also, it won't look spammy to google as well in that case.
