    Hi all.

I have a fairly new Amazon Affiliate site which is currently sitting midway down on page 2. The problem is that it's one of the product pages that's ranking, not the home page itself. The home page isn't to be seen, but there are a few other internal pages littered within the top 4 pages of google based on it's keyword, which is an EMD.

The listing on page 2 has already seen a drop of a couple of places in this past week, and from what I have read new exact match domains can sometimes show high to start with but then start to drop down. The keyword itself is of medium competition.

My question is - Am I better off building some quality links to the page that is currently ranking to see if I can keep it up and push it further, or just to the general URL? Or does it not matter either way?

    Thanks.

hey it doesn't really matter too much but if i were you i would.

    A. Always backlink inner pages as well as the homepage to make it look for natural and build a more authoritive base.

Each page should also link to other pages on your site if the links fit in, this helps to spread the juice across your site and get all the pages ranking better.

In your case continue to build links to the page that is already ranking well and then have a link from that to your homepage.

There is also a plugin you can use if your site is built using wordpress it's :

This will do all that for you.

    Great stuff. Thanks Cyber Rankings.

I do have the 'All In one SEO Pack' plugin installed but I'll give that one a go too or instead of.

My advice would be do both. Try to regain the momentum the inner page had, which will pass on link juice to the homepage. But you can't ignore the homepage. To get the results you want I strongly recommend you use a variety of link types--wiki links, edu's (beef up the edu's and gov's, they give trust), heavy on the social bookmarking links, do a press release each week, a couple of articles, and a blast of blog comments linking back to the rest of your inner pages but not your hompage.

You can get automated software to do all of that, or pay someone pretty cheap. If it's medium competition you're going to need to pace it anyway. And extend your domain registration two years. That tells Google you're going to be around a while.

Now, everybody will have a different opinion on what their strategy would be, but that's a pretty safe one. It's a money site, so I would play it safe rather than do a lot of blackhat stuff to it.

Great info. Will proceed with sensible caution. It probably helps that I'm still learning and picking up things as I go, but not really implementing anything until I properly understand its effects and consequences.

Nice touch that. Hadn't considered that at all.
