Backlinking strategy for YouTube videos?

One of my YouTube videos was ranking on Page 9 for a 1.3k per month keyword and a 4k per month keyword. I built links to it using GSA SER. Currently 10000 submitted, 8000 verified and 3000 indexed. Used all platforms and content from Wicked Article Creator. Video itself has around 1000 views (currently showing 301+ views).

NOW it's on page 3 for one keyword and page 5 for the other keyword. Good improvement!

I actually stopped building links because it didn't seem to budge off Page 9. But about one week after having stopped the link building, it was on page 3, possibly because of links being slowly indexed.

All that said, one of my biggest questions is whether it's natural for a YouTube video to have MORE LINKS THAN VIEWS? That totally seems fishy, but does Google care? Should I just keep building spammy links as before and wait till it hits Page 1? Is it possible at all for a YouTube video to get penalized if I am too spammy?

I'm sure someone with experience on YT video ranking can enlighten me on this.

I also tried analyzing the backlinking strategies of top ranking vids using Ahrefs. Unfortunately, it doesn't show more than 500 links, including for my video.

keep building links . Don't stop.
Try adding some manual blog comments or high pr links if you can afford.
Yes it is fishy , don't try on videos you are serious about .

I used to think that you could not rank a video in google anymore using backlinks but was recently shown that I was dead wrong.

I would continue to work the video using KWs that are appropriate to the KWs you want to rank and hit it with a variety of backlinking. As to it looking natural (views VS links), I do not think that comes into play as I have seen no issues relative to that metric and nor has a few others that are doing some similar activity.

Even BB had a video get bumped up in that fashion very recently and I actually saw that move.

You are on the right track, OP... make that page 1 ranking happen!

GSA is good tool to rank Youtube videos at Google. If your videos don't violate the rules, your videos are safe and stay longer at Youtube.

You can repeat the same method for other video projects.

Keep building links with good anchor text diversity, add some social signals as well and see if your ranking is improved.

The 1 thing you have to be careful about is the fact that google considers certain keywords "nonvideo" keywords and won't rank them on page 1 no matter how many links you build.

I say this not to demotivate you, but you must keep in mind that google uses a dual algo that determines whether certain keywords should display videos or websites.

So when I target any keyword for youtube, I create a list of keywords that ALL have videos ranking in the top 5. And I simply target the greenest phrases. Then I usually do a 3-5 tier blast with GSA (after I boost with views) to rank it in the top 3 of Google. If the video gives me problems, I slam it with some high pr web2.0 links (from blackhatlinks). Most of the time that will do the job.

But please keep in mind that G will not display a YT video for certain keywords no matter how many links or views it has.

You dont have to have more views than backlinks, spam the hell out of your videos

It's true that my video is the only video ranking in the top 100 results for that keyword. But that may be because this keyword has almost no competition and I seem to be the only one targeting this keyword right now.

Anyway, if it got from page 9 to page 3 in a week, I think there is a very good chance that it will rank on Page 1. I will just continue blasting tier 1 links as I have been doing, and see if it moves up. Subsequently maybe I will go for tiered link building and high PR web2 links like you said.
