I know newbies can be bothersome...but I just need a little help here on something basic. I need to see things 'clear.'

I go to backlink something. I am hosting on 1&1.com. In their system, I need to provide the backlink & I can change it.
-----------ok, that is easy. I've learned on how to use Tinyurl, etc.

But, I see posts like "Here are hundreds of free links." I do not know how to use these. Can someone take a babywalk with me, and show me how. IE: someone posted hundreds of free backlinks. How do I incorporate them into my site?

Also......and this is another silly question for you pros.......but I have been learning on how to write my own HTML codes on links. Some of them work and some don't. I get frustrated. Am I making a small problem bigger?

Let me show you an example:
    <a href= "http://www.************************/xxxxxx">Click here!</a/<img src-"Blowup.jpg"/>

I am just wanting to learn how to backlink & link with the snap of my fingers, and with everything I am learning here...for some reason, I feel as if I have a hang-up on this. I need to go back to square 1 on it.

    Thank you.

I think you are just not understanding what a backlink is. I would normally just send you to google for this question, but I tried a search and really couldn't find anything as remedial as your asking. So I'll go ahead and help you out a little.

A back link is any link that you can get put onto someone elses website that links back to your own website.

So you go to an article directory, write and submit an article, and then when you submit the article you will give them your name, email address and homepage. The url that you put in your homepage will become a backlink when the article is accepted.

You can also include a link inside the article, although not all directories will accept that. If they do, then that will be a backlink.

You can go to digg.com and submit your page. Once you submit your website, a page will be created on digg that will have a backlink to your site. The same is true with stumbleupon, delicious, reddit, etc.

If you create a profile on facebook, myspace, twitter, etc. You will add a homepage link which will also link back to your site. If you make a post on your friends facebook wall, or a bulletin on myspace, or leave a comment on a friends myspace profile that will create a backlink.

You can also search for blogs that will let you leave comments, when you leave the comment you will include your homepage which will be a link back to your page. The same is true when you leave comments on news articles, youtube, or any other site that allows comments.

If you have other websites of your own, you can insert a link on your page that will link back to your other page. Sometimes you should do this, other times you shouldn't.

There is also a tag that websites use to minimize the importance of your backlink. This is what people are talking about when they bring up N0F0LL0W and D0F0LL0W. Basically all backlinks are good for you (unless they are on a redflagged site), but in general the d0F0LL0W links will be better.

There are many other places you can leave backlinks also. That is what your reading about in the threads you mentioned.

I don't know what you were thinking a backlink is, but I hope this maybe clears it up a little.

I did find a reference for you after all. You should read this page
    Code:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlink
You should also be sure to read this thread,
    Guide for New Members
There are many posts in the thread that will help you out with using bhw.

Are you pulling out your 'one' little nugget you grew on this forum, with me? I have to laugh. Who are you trying to impress?

Understand the concept: I wanted to learn better backlinking and linking skills. I PERSONALLY asked to start at elementary level, to make sure I am learning it properly. I have found no thread on it, even in search.

I believe for a house to be strong, then the foundation of it, must be strong.

Since I am a member of this community, and I am NOT asking to be spoonfed on IDEAS of making millions......it is on simple links..How shameful of you. Are you a little kid? DO I have to slap you like a fly?

I will NOT TELL YOU what I have accomplished so far, by being on this forum. (thank you other members for you posts). What I have wanted and implemented has worked so far. I just thought I would ask this, to COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND it.

And believe me....I thought I use 1 thread as 1 short cut in learning 1,000 things. But, hey...it doesn't bother me to learn elsewhere at the same time - ALREADY DOING JUST THAT! I am beyond what you stated and more.

DO you think I sit with my thumb up my a*(* waiting for ppl like you?

I am good in business and have ran them for several years, building & selling them. Maybe I am new in IM...but I'm learning quick. It is the same with all my other businesses, NOT IM.

Fwiffo...I will pass you. That I know for sure.

    Have a great day:D

I know what a backlink is...I just wanted to get real good at it, on applying them the proper way. I want things done right. I have worked very hard for weeks on learning IM. It is not easy with 1,--- topics to get it.

What you just did for me, is taken lots, from web page to web page - thread to thread, and condensed into 1. This is what I needed & 4 major points I can implement.

I simply needed a friend to give me clairty; get me focused again on what I am working on.

    THANK YOU! You'll BE REMEMBERED!

@orangeblossom - how you respond to a flame is important on a forum also. We get a lot of new people on here that don't understand what level this forum is at. Questions are OK, but it's usually expected for people to use other sources to learn elementary concepts and come here for more advanced topics. There is no problem doing both at the same time, someone that knows nothing about the internet can still learn a lot on this forum. It just isn't really the place to learn the really basic things. It is the place to learn what basic things are the most important though.

When you ask a remedial question, there is a good chance your going to get a flame or two. I even said in my post, usually I would just send you to google for this kind of info. Flames usually means you made a post that doesn't belong here. There is such a problem with pointless threads lately that a lot of members tolerance levels are pretty low. Don't worry about it if you get flamed sometimes, just take it as a learning experience.

If you barely cross the line into an unacceptable post you'll get a small amount of flames, when you blow up about it you're sending a message that you think the forum should change to accomodate you rather than you change to fit into the forum community. That is a good way to recieve even more flames from even more people. You really should read through the Guide for New Members thread if you haven't already.
    ---------------

So anyway, I'm still in a helpful mood. So, here you go. :)
Some basic info regarding the html anchor tag:

When you use an anchor tag you need an opening tag and a closing tag. There are some things you can include in the opening tag, but not in the closing tag. An img src is a seperate tag, you can use it for the anchor, but it doesn't belong inside the tag itself.
    So your
    Code:
    <a href= "http://www.************************/xxxxxx">Click here!</a/<img src-"Blowup.jpg"/>
    Should be
    Code:
    <a href= "http://www.************************/xxxxxx">Click here!</a>
If you want to use an image instead of the text you could do:
    Code:
    <a href= "http://www.************************/xxxxxx"><img src="Blowup.jpg"></a>
If you're posting that on a page other than where blowup.jpg is located then you have to do:
    Code:
    <a href= "http://www.************************/xxxxxx"><img src="http://www.************************/blowup.jpg"></a>
html at this level is one of the things I'm talking about that is best to get from sources that specialize in it, and then learn how to use that information on bhw. For instance, on a bhw thread you will read that you need to use title, description, and keywords metatags for proper seo. You will also read that you should include your keywords in the body of your page and use header tags h1, h2, etc. In your anchor tags you should include a title and alt description.

All of these things are important, and now you know you need to learn them. But don't ask here what they are, go to a html tutorial page and look up what the metatags are, what the header tags are, and how to format an anchor tag. BHW gives you the advanced knowledge, a tutorial site gives you the basic knowledge, and then once you learned from both you have the complete understanding and can apply the knowledge.

You can just google for html tutorial to find some good sites. If you need to find info about a specific tag just google for it and you'll find the specific pages on the tutorial sites dealing with that tag. Here is one of the sites I usually recommend for html. It will take you from the most basic html structure to the most advanced. The site is structured so you can learn at however fast a pace you want.
    Code:
    http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
    ------------------------------
Glad I could help. If you really want to thank someone on the forums here, it's best to use the thanks button at the bottom of the post that was helpful to you. :)

Good luck on your new venture into IM

    And there is also,
rel="nofollow" - in the head of your html you can also find "noindex, nofollow" or just "nofollow" which reffers to ******** or nofollow

    Theres is title="Your keywords"
