It is very crucial to get backlinks indexed. Otherwise it don't exist.

yes backlinks need to be index , you can go over and try indexing faster by google webmaster tools or premium indexer as well .

The back link where you submit, if it already indexed, there is no need add index manually, Google itself crawls website and find back links and index.
