Of course you have to modify the picture, or is he going to think the EXACT same picture that he took was on a blog in 2001?

You may want to avoid 'pranks'. They probably aren't your calling in life to be honest.

just add a post at wordpress with the picture and backdate it to any date in the publishing settings

Well many of you guys are just posting about vintage stuff, but the OP just want to change the date of the picture in the properties, so that the picture looks with older date.

Give me his granny's or his mom's (preferred) pic when she was 16 y.o. and I will put the bowl to her lips. That will be IT! And I will put a date on it using the image on the 1971 Christmas Eve NYTimes issue.

if you are using WP cms then edit the single.php where you can find a line with publishing date

1>change the dat in your pc
2>open paint
3> click save
4> change the date again your pc
5>profit....

The best way is to find a blog that was already established before 2001 and have that person upload the picture to their site and backdate it. If you have one of these yourself already, then great. If not, you can find someone on Fiverr, Elance, Craigslist, etc, that would do it pretty cheap since you're not asking for much.
