Hi Guys,

I have signed a new client that sells plastics that they mould in factory and then they sell B2B. So they sell school lockers, huge plastic containers in the health and food industry etc.

The client has never done digital marketing so I will look after everything digital marketing wise. I am a little lost as I deal with local SEO. I need some people that have experience with B2B E-Commerce or general E-Commerce to see what they think of my plan.

1) First I shall see what there competitors are ranking for and do full SEO audits on their websites.
2) Check backlink profile, optimise all product pages, have a good silo, interlinking etc
3) Press releases to dilute and then start getting in touch with webmasters in the similar niches looking for backlinks
4) Weekly blog posts interlinking to product pages
5) Maybe then start looking to build PBN, should I like to the inner product pages and homepage?

How does this plan sound? Anyone have experience with B2B E-Commerce sites or anything to add feel free to comment.

Thanks,

Well, you need some budget to buy links, right? Do they have the budget? First 4 points are fine, you do that, but they will also need to invest money into good links.

Did they hire you for SEO or did they hire you for online business marketing?

Sorry, yes they have hired me to do online business marketing, they said anything digitalwise. I have experience with SEO and PPC. More SEOwise but going to get my feet wet and try other digital marketing strategies

Yes they have given me a decent budget I just have to justify all my costs. But they have set a limit of $1,000 a month.

You need to justify a bigger budget. That's peanuts. That's like taking a water pistol to a gun fight.

I've done more Local SEO so not sure. Netmoney1 what do you think would be a reasonable budget and why?

I was thinking with $1,000 a month maybe $1,200. Lets say max $200 for press releases, create 16 PBNs a month so on average a PBN costs would be $60 so $960. I would then just stick to PBN's and then broken link building, niche comments maybe a infographic 1 month, business directories, see what competitors linking to etc.

Does that $1k include your fee also? It's impossible to say without looking....but ecommerce usually has a ton of products...tons of keywords...then if there is high comp....you are going to really need to do a lot of research...all stuff that needs to be done WAY BEFORE establishing a monthly budget...and letting the client dictate the budget is suicide...

Thanks for the feedback dude. No this is just the digital marketing fee.

My fee is a add-on which they are happy with the rate I agreed. Yes that is true great in-depth research will be carried out, I will get more of an idea. I was thinking ranking for the low comp keywords first and building my way up to medium and then high...

They have to increase their budget otherwise, you cant do seo. In ecommerce, there is a lot of keywords, to outrank them, it will take you lot of costs invovled.

Have you tried paid advertising?

It depends on the product, I don't see how you all can say $1,000 is too low of a budget without knowing what keywords he is even going after. His niche sounds pretty small to me. School lockers? Do you guys really think it would be hard to rank that type of term??? I've ranked sites for $25,000 in ecommerce sales a month on HALF that budget. So its definitely possible. You just have to either be ok with a longterm approach, or focus in on just a few areas of keywords.

I just don't know how anybody could give you budget advice without knowing far more.

Thanks guys for the feedback it's good to get everyones views. With keyword research I'll do and checking competitors I'll get more of an idea if the budget is good or needs increasing.

I wanted to find out if my SEO strategy for a E-Commeece site was okay but looks like its pretty sound as haven't had criticism. Feel free to add any points anyone has taken when doing E-Commerce SEO, any help is better then none :)

Plastic manufacturers tend to have thousands of SKUs. All that research needs to be done before even accepting a job let alone quoting one or letting the client dictate the monthly budget.

Imagine if someone approached a contractor and wanted to have a house built on a lot and said he has $600,000 to spend. He showed the builder the plans and the builder takes the job without doing any research. Then when it comes time to build they realize the lot is not buildable and requires $300,000 of improvements before it can be built on. Then the contractor approaches the customer and says "oh well actually this will cost $900,000" - the customer gets pissed off and walks...and the contractor wasted a ton of time because they didn't do the correct work in the beginning.
