Authority Site SEO Case Study

BTB What about starting the article/post with my keyword/small variation? Is it okay or is it bad? I usually do it because I can make it my H1 Tag in wordpress and this way I increase the keyword density a little bit (since Its usually really low for my articles, below 1.5%)

like this:
Article Title with main keyword (IE: How to lose weight fast)
Keyword Variation (How to lose weight quickly or How to lose weight fast in the gym)
Image
Description
Features/mainpoint
etc

That sounds fine... a general idea of what I like to do, but do vary, is this:

KW in title
KW in first paragraph
KW here and there in the article
LSI KW in H2, H3, H4, etc sub titles

Images in various places in the article where appropriate and Image SEO as part of that of course.

I do not always have my title (H1) as my permalink though, I do change that up before publishing an article pretty frequently.

Then what do you usually pick for permalink?

One of my niches is downloads so I usually go for:

Title:
XXX Download - XXX Crack (then sometimes a small info after crack depending on the software)

however the permalink is usually only the main keyword so that it remains small

http://mylink.com/xxx-download

ps: I also usually mark the keyword right under the title as H1 since wordpress doesn't make the title as <h1> automatically I believe and then h2/h3 as LSI towards the middle / end of the article

For the permalink I change it to reflect some other aspect or a different way of sharing the KW.

For instance if I was targeting the KW "Bananas", the title could be "Do Bananas Have High Potassium In Them?", I might change the permalink to site.com/bananas-and-potassium or some such thing.

In that article I would be targeting the benefits of bananas when it comes to potassium intake perhaps and would want the permalink to reflect some of the spirit of the article. The permalink is an onsite "tool" so to speak and can share the essence of the article in little tiny snippets... the title does something similar but using different content.

Hopefully that makes some sense to you.

Your English is fine from what you wrote here so maybe you are short changing yourself there; also there are some decent writers that are 5/500 that are out there for content that could work on a site... I would not want to dismiss all at that price point as a matter of rule.

It usually does take a little longer to start generating decent traffic/revenue on an authority site but I think there are a few different things in play here that are not what I have done in the past.

  • The niche is different and no where near as competitive as my usual stuff (business and finance).
  • I am using a different method to monetize (ebay partner). I have that on some of my sites but none as the primary.
  • My content is longer than usual in most of my articles... I have some a bunch of long articles up there and that is not usually the case. I'll have some that are longer on my sites but this site is primarily longer articles.

I think those 3 factors come into play here with this niche and this site.

i thought ebay partner network was of no use after recent changes?

So far so good, been doing pretty much everything that BTB has been doing with some changes ofc since the subjects and the sites are different and my domain is 2 weeks old and already has 7 of 50 keywords in top 20-50 with 0 SEO done to them.

Pretty nice. Gonna send a few web2.0 to my first 20 posts in a few days nothing major only about 10 web2.0 or so to a few posts and gonna start sending social signs too to the older posts

If I can be patient enough to wait 2-3 more weeks before starting the "harder" SEO I feel like I'll be successful

I think you are mistaken; it is alive and well.

It is not unusual for any of the monetization methods used by most IMers to make adjustments to their programs; we just have to adjust as well.

When my buddy comes aboard we may switch from eBay if he cannot get a partner account (they used to be hard to get, not sure anymore) but until then I'll be using the eBay partner network for this site.

We are going to take this site and start treating it like a real site now. This week we will be adding social media pages to the process. A bunch of pages back someone asked if I was going to do that and I stated that I was not as I wanted to work this as a onsite/minor off site backlinks thing but with my friend coming along I want to make this a full blown event.

He also has a brandable name for this niche and wants to actually have products manufactured to sell; I would not do that myself as it is a lot of work and I don't care to do that volume of work but he'll work that angle with a little help from me.

So, this week a FB, Twitter and Instagram account will be set up for the site and we'll be taking advantage of the tons of pictures he has from real life situations relative to this site/niche.

Any personal reason why you didn't make fb fanpage and such earlier like a week or two after the site was made?

I vary that an awful lot as to %... I don't think it is wise to have anything set in stone. If one backlink is all I need I use only one to a page. Typically I link to the inner pages with just a very few direct links to the root url.

Not all my tier ones (when I tier links) are going to be Web 2.0s or Parasite pages... that is a poor strategy in my opinion. I'll be mixing in a variety of other links that link direct to the site. I'll probably be adding some of those in this month once my buddy comes along; I'd like to wait until he is involved so he can participate with that on a hands on level.

Hey BTB

Aside from the free website builders and blogs, what other contextual link sources are you using for tiered linking? I have a hard time finding new ones myself that are free.

I sort of wanted to take the site a different way and just use "traditional" SEO methods as it was part journey, part test and part share/instruction. Now, with a real human going to rely on the income and the site as part of his revenue I think it best to take it full Monty and do the whole nine yards.

The partner is a real close friend of mine and there is a lot of history with him and I and I want to make sure he gets the full benefit of this... I didn't care about the income for myself but for him it will make a difference in his life.

Hey BTB

Aside from the free website builders and blogs, what other contextual link sources are you using for tiered linking? I have a hard time finding new ones myself that are free.

Doc share sites are real good (careful about spam there as some will slap your hand), I use EDU sites, press release sites (some last forever), url shorteners are not bad in many instances (I'll have a free tool available in a couple of days for that), there are a few sites I use in what many call reputation management such as image sharing sites, forum backlinks to a lesser extent, even nofollow links from some of the standard sites that we all know about.

I don't always tier my backlinks and I don't always care if the backlinks I even use have any significant SEO value. When it comes to my own sites, I like to have some links that are not valuable as to SEO so it does not look to Google that all I am doing is getting the cream of the crop to link to my sites. That is not a natural progression and I like things to look natural so I like to implement what I call "Camouflage SEO" to appear natural.

I know that is not what is preached in most SEO places but it has worked real well for me for years now and since my sites are usually built for the long term it makes a lot of sense to me to operate like that.

Thanks for sharing that with me. I do already use those sources, for the same reasons as you, but I never used any of those in tiered linking campaigns. I'm usually only using those for unoptimized anchors/ip/domain diversity. The only things I am using for tiered links are contextual article links. Either on my own self hosted domains or web 2's. I am ALWAYS looking for new (free) sources. It's the first thing I do every day, actually.

I use GSA URP for the shortners, and SER sometimes depending on what I'm doing. Url Redirect Pro works really well for that... Although if you're not careful it will make more than 40k shortened urls! I'll check yours out for sure. I need something with less of a blast approach for daily tasks.

URL shortners are good for more than just t1 links to tier as well. I have a few uses for those myself. You probably already know what else shortned urls are good for though, but since you've shared with me, shoot me a pm if youre interested in what I've learned about them.

Geez!

I have read all of these 13 pages in a single run.

It may be procrastinated time (since I should write content on my own Authority site) but boy, it was worth it!

Great thread BTB, definitely goes to my TOP 10 of BHW! I'm gonna keep watching it closely!

This week we will be adding social media pages to the process.

FB and Twitter are set up now. I'll do the Instagram tomorrow or the next day.

I also got Twt Dominator to build up the twitter account. I looked at a bunch of different tools for that and this looked like the best bet and after working with it a bit I realized it is IndianBill's tool. I know him pretty well and his stuff is always real good, he stands behind his products and he is a real good guy so I'm glad I made that choice.

I'll be using about 10 KWs to in the process to start following like minded people and doing that slowly... I'll do the same thing with FB once we get the Twitter working as it should.

I'm also showing this process to my Buddy via Team Viewer as he is about 300 miles or so from where I am and I want him to be able to see the whole none yards.

I have a problem.
My website is now a bit older than 3 weeks old with 35 posts, however some of my older posts still aren't indexed, if I search on google even the images used are indexed but not the post link itself, I didn't make any backlinks to it besides a youtube video, what could the problem be? Do I need to ping it? Or what?

There are a couple of different things you can do. If you use Web Master Tools do this:

If you are one that prefers to not use GWT, then you can go here and submit the URL:

Shit, google actually told me why they weren't being indexed, I forgot something. I tried CPA on these older posts with content locker and the content locker blocked those without java so google was being redirected due to no javascript, this actually answered a question I had for a few years if content lockers could be bad for SEO

Thanks BTB, as usual you always have the right answers

Regarding your web2.0 you let them rest because it might not be optimal if google tracks the articles in the web2.0 and sees "Oh right, first article and already an outbound link" so you prefer to let it age and make it seem "legit" however you said you made 50 web2.0 do you split them per post (1-2 per post) or what?

Also once the web2.0 have aged "enough" do you just edit the post and add the link and wait for google to recrawl the page or you ping it + backlink it or you simply add +1 article with the link to that web2.0? (total of 100 articles in those 50 web2.0)

Oh and aren't you scared about platform diversity? I have about 100 links from pr5-7 URLs where I could get backlinks from with less than 20 OBL however they all are blog comments and I'm scared google might penalize me for getting so many backlinks from the same type of engine and only from 4-6 different domains

That is why I build and let them sit for a while. I build them with varying amount of posts... some with one, some with 2, some with 3 etc.. then once they pages are mostly indexed I start to add in links to my site.

I'm not so much scared as I know that I can't just use web 2.0s as backlnks and we will be adding in a variety as time moves forward but since this site is still in it's semi-embryonic stage I'm not concerned.

Good point that you are making though and not one to be dismissed, using only web 2.0s as your backlinks can look unnatural and cause an issue down the road.

Hey BTB,

I know you're focusing on one authority site but do you ever put links to multiple money sites/clients on your Tier 1s? Working on a couple different authority sites in different niches and hesitant to put content/links to multiple money sites on the same Tier 1.
