Authority Site SEO Case Study

He is super big on not setting parameter like around 1% and minimum of 1k words.

My advice: Be natural and think natural. If you were an active writer for a huge authority site a random 600 word article wouldn't be a bad thing.

Are you ranking your keywords only through good content +1 backlink from a web2.0?

If so how can you overcome those websites also targetting same keyword with lets say 10-40 backlinks

This has inspired me, adding 3 articles daily, although they are short (300-500 words) I don't have much content about these BH niches so they are alright compared to other websites which are filled with duplicate content in the same niche. I'm also making 1-2 youtube videos with URL directing at each of my posts. I hope I can rank but I don't know if I'll be able to overcome those with 10-40 backlinks targetting the same/similar keyword

After following this thread extensively and launching 5 sites recently because all of the authority site guides on here, I would like to chime in with my own advice. Hope this is fine BTB!

As far as blasting links to your site goes, you need to be smart. For three sites I am working on daily, I went with BTB's LinkLure service for build as WH links as possible to solidify them as I build. I waited until I had over 20 posts per site which had real content. Not stuff I purchased or spun, stuff I would think is worth sharing. Looks completely fine in the eyes of the big G as long as you have quality. With a service link LinkLure or some good, quality social shares, you will see movement. It all also appears natural.

I would never blast 33K links to a brand new domain with few articles. Even 100 + Articles like one of sites I build smart web 2.0 (7th Amigo is a good provider, LinkLure has decent Web 2.0's, and if you are new to this, learn to build them yourself) and do tiers. Personally, just my preference and you do not need to replicate what I do, I build 4 tiers when starting out. Why 4 tiers? Remove risk for spam. I get strong links or Web 2.0s, build quality to them, then I build average stuff to Tier 2. This average stuff is normally what people call good tier 2. Then, if so inclined to super charge the good, I will spam links to my tier three.

Does my approach work as well? Not always, being honest here. Some times I get a KW to rank on page one in a few days, other times I get up a couple slots. But my approach is to provide juice to the KW's on my good links. Have my sites ever been hit by G? Never. Never say never, it can happen, but for difficult KWs I am not above paying for a great web 2.0 or claimed 'authority link', building web 2.0s to it as tier two, do typical tier two as my tier three, then spamming to it. I see a lot of people doing spam to a web 2.0. I have done it, but it is not natural for a simple two article or five article web 2.0 to have 10K links to it. The last thing I want is to lose a good 2.0 I built which is doing some great things for my site.

My personal approach is to build a so called Micro Niche site with non profitable KWs which get some traffic and use them as 2.0s. Even if you buy on BHW, you can get a site you can make money from with KWs or fluff you would not put on your money site due to canibalization with alike KWs or articles or simply content which you do not have a place for (For example, if I have a site about cars and focus on models, mechanics and performance, I would not make a section for fuzzy dice), I made a MNS, and build 2.0s to it. This works amazingly well for me.

One niche I am in is highly competitive. My site has the most content but it is not formatted for SE's. It is to improve and help clients. A SE friendly MNS which I can put ads on or Click Bank, and link to my site and my personal partners in my niche is insanely profitable. I sell personal Kindle Books, partners eBooks and services, and other such items. You can do review site, it does work. I build these sites up naturally and have more than 10 good articles on it, an extra article a month is a good call in my opinion.

I think of this as pure brand exposure. Nothing is set in stone. But if I can make money from tier one and promote brand exposure, it is a good idea. Plus, my link building is very safe.

Spam works well. But when I have done it I was never happy with the results. They are quick, but then they fade away, get dropped, or even worse are on platforms I cannot control. I do not want tier two links mingled with 100's of porn links.

I think some people assume a simple buffer 2.0 built with automation and 100k links spammed to it will rank you long term. Short term, yes. Long term, no. The tier one will eventually get removed or penalized, and just hope you have no footprints.

So if this long winded post means anything, it is simply this: Be smart and make it all look natural. When trying to build a long term business, natural is the way to go. If you build links, you need to replicate this. How you do it does not matter. But make it look legit.

Most sites will never get a feature on a big websites or top domain like CNN. Buying them will not help you. Some sites will never get 30k links to it. So do not try to spam links to a crappy 2.0.

As for content, BTB is a beast and KNOWS his sites. They are often in the same niche. He can write (Or speak) a super quality post with over 1000 words naturally. But, the big but, is some topics do NOT need 1k words to say. Being brief is an art form. A reader does not want a sales pitch or 500 words of fluff if they are looking for 'where to buy X'. Your reader wants a specific set of information.

If your niche is about Weight Loss and you do an article about what a Fat is, your ready does not want the history of Fat, the chemical structure, etc. Get to the point if your article is informative. Not every piece of content is sharable, some is simply quality readers will stick on your site for.

Sorry for intruding BTB. If this does not fly, I can ask a mod to take it down.

Too many people get caught up in replicating someone else's strategy and fail to experiment or come up with their own unique ideas. yeah, you're gonna have to wade through some crap, but you get a solid understanding of what works and what doesn't, and then you can reproduce or a/b test to ultimately come up with a strategy that works for you. I would have missed so many things if I just tried to copy everyone else's ideas. Even in detailed journeys such as this one, the small things that matter are often left-out because they become second-nature after a while.

I actually leave out a few things on purpose because of exactly what you are saying. Excellent post.

BTB,

I read that you would expect to pay over $10,000 if you outsourced the articles. Just out of curiosity how many articles would you expect from that?

Cheers

Shaun

1500 - 1800... something like that.

We used to employ a full time writer and paid them 18K a year for 5 days a week, 8 hours a day of just writing.

If I was not dialing back I would probably do that again as that worked out well for all involved.

Planning to build an authority site to help build web presence and strength to my money site. Thanks so much for sharing your information.

I've read that silo structuring your site is essential for seo and have been siloing my money site and am wondering whether to on my authority site.

BTB, how important would you say siloing an authority site on wordpress is?

Thank You for the quick reply :)

So thats around $6 per article? Did you feel the quality was good enough to put on your money site or did you have to edit them before publishing?

I do silo but not like you see promoted all over the internet... I do things a tad differently than that. That is not bad, I just make some adjustments to that process/setup.

There are two parts to that answer... I do read and edit all content that goes on my sites that is not written by me... you would have to be NUTS not to in my shoes.

As to the pricing, when you order 500 articles (and almost always pay up front), you are not paying the book rate that is advertised usually. Think of it as if you were shopping at a store like Sams, Costo, etc.

You buy in bulk you get a break.

I've been given a free silo theme plugin which completely silos your wordpress site but the layout is primitive and ugly and appearance is going to be of some importance surely.

It seems like I can't silo my wordpress and have a nice layout without paying a load of money.

Is your site done using wordpress BTB? Would you be able to reveal how you silo it?

I'm not one that is overly concerned about appearance as much as I am about conversions. Does that theme you have convert?

If so it may be fine for what you are looking to do.

If not then you certainly want to look at other options. I do talk a bit about my "silo" process earlier in this thread somewhere.... I believe it is closer to the beginning on the thread.

Thanks for the reply BTB,

I may look to bulk outsource some content writing as I have some capital to invest and I am not the biggest fan of writing. I have set myself a little goal of writing at least one 2000 word article each night this week and so far I am reaching my goal with around 10,000 words spread over four articles.

Do you have a specific source where you get your writers? I have used the BST here for other projects but seem unable to find a sweet spot where quality and price match up. I have started testing iwriter for other sites and so far I am having some success. Once I find a writer that meets my requirements I will start upping my order quanity to try and take advantage of bulk discounts as you suggested.

Subscribed to this a while ago but wanted to say it's an inspiration to me to start an authority site at some stage. Am new to all this but this is where I want to be at some point

There are some real good writers in the BST area here... I've used iWriter, elance, hireafreelancer, etc... I prefer a few guys here though as there is some accountability in the event that there is an issue with service.

As to the 2K words per article; don't sweat that kind of target. If you are able to provide the content in 500 words go ahead and do that. Granted, the larger the article the better it ranks USUALLY, but I would not hold that kind of standard as you can do very well with smaller articles as well.

Best onsite SEO practice as to content - Mix it up.

Hey BTB, when you say there are some real good writers here, what general price range are you talking about? $2/100? $5/100? $10/100? More?

There is a guy on here that is 3.50/500 words that does decent stuff... others that are in the 10.00/100 words... I like to mix it up when I outsource.

If you can somehow get Ramsweb to come out of retirement, you'll hire him and never look back. I bet he has written 5,000 articles for me over the years.

How many monthly searches does your keywords have as average?

Also when you pick those keywords do you pick them because no one else is literally trying to rank for them (as in not having them in title etc) or because you're confident that even if you have a bit of competition, you'll be able to get above them

Evening BTB,

I might look to outsourcing some articles soon then, I have a decent guy for $4/100 that I used for my kindle books.

Could you please clarify your income as I have gotten myself a little confused. I saw you said some of your sites have thousands of pages and bring in a minimum of $1500 a month. Does that mean some of your pages only bring in $1 a month?

Cheers

Shaun
