Authority Site SEO Case Study

Probably not; it is a part of the whole body of work but I do not think that it is a major factor. I anticipated traffic at this stage, I did not expect to be getting the steady revenue as I am essentially competing with eBay, and as opposed to eBay's pages showing up for the KWs, it is my site showing up and out ranking those eBay pages.
Some of that is the actual content as eBay, a site that has more authority than than a person with a Signet Ring on each finger, is light in unique content for each of it's individual pages. I do not rank sites, never have, I rank pages and always have.
It is a good domain as accelerator_dd offers a very good product and I do not want to take away from the value there so please don't take my commentary as such.
I'm already kicking around the idea of another site that targets eBay based on this experience but it is very back burner as the amount of data I have is not enough to make an informed business decision.

Do you realize it takes months, even years for an authority site to actually gain its full profitable potential?
The fact that BTB posted he was happy that he got an affiliate sale was because it's a start. Making an authority site is not for someone lazy. This will take months and months of tedious work before you actually see something worthwhile.
This week he got 1 sale. Next week he could get 2. Then 3,4,5,6. Its all about scalability and velocity. Yes, you definitely missed something

I would go with Natasha Nixon. She is the best content writer that I know of. Don't skimp on quality about* your content.
*Ps. Intentionally made a grammatical mistake to prove a point.
If your content writer makes such mistakes, you will lose credibility of the visitor.

I'm doing an Authority site of my own.. So far its got around 45k-50k words on the site and is a competitive niche with Adsense cpc close to $1. With no offsite. I'm already seeing 5-10 uvs a day steady.
I've my own team of writers and VA's so the process is almost automated.. I just do the quality check.
Though I didn't choose an old domain, so I dont have domain age on my side, but thats ok as I wanted to start with 0 link profile.
My Niche earns about $10-20 per 100 uvs on avg or so from adsense (from past experience in same niche).. + Affiliate income. I'm also building pinterest channel, FB page, G+ profile to boost my social authority, before making any backlinks.
This is going to be an interesting jouney

I love this thread. Thanks for the no bull feces approach! I didn't even know what a backlink was before signing up here, and just reading up on this journey looking up every word I didn't understand makes me feel like I'm not a complete rookie anymore.
I'm quite tempted to just get going, compile a few thousand keywords around the theme of my site, buy a domain and crank out some content as I continue to learn the rules of the game to get my site's pages ranked.
When I researched how to pick a domain name or test a niche, I found a blog post by the startupbros suggesting to use A/B testing and a few bucks for google adwords to test the effectiveness of different logos or taglines. (with leadpages or unbounce for example)
I thought it would be a smart first move, but since I still practically know nothing I'd love to hear your take on A/B tests or if it's good enough to just buy an old domain that doesn't have a terrible history, create a ton of high quality content that's indexed in a search engine friendly way and drive traffic with backlinks?
In any case, keep up the great work and thanks for sharing with us.

I used to think that you had to have different IP addresses when creating Web 2.0s but I was shown by several people that is not necessary. The various Web 2.0 site knows you are logging in from XYZ IP, Goog does not so there is no need.

Well that made things a whole lot easier. Another question if I may. Can we also make social media accounts from one IP address? Like 1 account for each Web 2.0.

Seems like a rather efficient process. What version of Dragon do you use?
Depending on the topic, some versions have a more advanced dictionary, from my understanding.

I don't know that site or those guys and have done A/B testing a thousand times on tons and tons of sites over the years. For this site, I will probably test different monetization methods but that is a down the road thing. The little revenue I am making now, between 2 and 5 dollars a day, would not be give me enough data to know if one method is better than the other.
I would not spend any money with adwords etc to do the testing as that is not necessary. Forget logos, tagline and what not and do what you are thinking... get a domain that is not junk, either a dropped one with some links or a new one altogether, do KW research, write some content and start the process of building a site that has value.
If the site gets to 50.00 a day on the average that would warrant me trying another monetization method to see if it is better. I will add a link unit to the site next week and will even post a screen shot of what I do with them on most of my sites so guys can see what I do there.
It is version 12.5 and I have a 50.00 or so Logitech headset with a mic that I use. I do get some keywords that Dragon seems to not get and when that happens I just use a generic word like "blue" and then find and replace all of them before posting.
I think there is a newer version out but I don't see a need at this point to upgrade.

Through this thread i have noticed that, a lot of people are writing their own content for their own parallel Authority sites (just like myself). I was doing some sunday afternoon lunch reading and came across 2 links that i believe everyone should browse through (especially if you're writing yourself). I think they give a nice overview, that gives you a slight edge over the average run of the mill IMer. Every small advantage you can get right ?
