Authority Site SEO Case Study

Out of interest, what PA/DA did this domain have when you started?

I did not look at those metrics when I got the domain; I know it had a handful of decent links to it and some were from other sites in the niche and were aged. I'm not real big on those metrics myself as I am more into what links are coming in to the site.

The domain was one that accelerator_dd would not sell as it did not have some of what he offers commercially but for my purposes it was very good.

Also, the site did not have any content of any consequence in the wayback machine that had any real value.

I'm going to use my eBay partner network account; I'm pretty sure I mentioned that before in this thread and I'll use some of their creatives as well as some that I generate.

So, let the fun begin!

Some say potato and some say potatoe but I say BOOYAH; $5.02 from eBay partner network from this site yesterday.

We all know that is nothing to buy five copies of and send them to your Mother but I'm as giddy as a 7 year old on Christmas morning about it.

Let me follow this thread. I am planning to build up 3 authority sites in next 3 months from scratch. This thread will definitely a great start.

I always wanted to build an authority site but getting the quality content was the main issue for me.

8 days without update, I hope u haven't abandoned the thread BTB

It is the Holidays plus I moved to my winter home so things are a little "messy"... I'm spending a little more time with family and just maintaining my businesses for the most part online. I do have articles that are autoposting that have been prewritten and set to post in the future so the site is being updated but I'm not doing much else for a few more days.

I'll be back hard at it on Monday/Tuesday.

^^I guess at times like this its handy to have written those extra articles and kept them on schedule or just sitting in drafts :-)

This site is starting to turn into something a little faster than I thought and I am seeing my KWs on page one for more than I am targeting directly. That is giving me more traffic and the traffic is turning into revenue.

I have 37 KWs on the front page of Google, 9 are actually in the top 10 in images as opposed to regular search so that is 28 on page 1 in regular search. I'm good with the images as the site is visited by those that have an interest in how the general niche products look but am real excited by the other KWs that are sitting on page 1.

Traffic is steady over 100 UVs a day and revenue is between 2.00 and 5.00 a day and I had one day that it was over 8.00 so that is starting to come along... nothing to pop off about but something to be smiling about in a Mona Lisa kind of way.

I am noticing that many of the KWs are fighting with YT videos on page 1 so I'll be doing some videos for my site. I'll outsource that as my artistic skills are on the same level as a caveman but I'm sure I'll be able to rank them and get some linkjuice from them and some traffic from them as well.

This is more of a seasonal site too, spring and summer time, so the momentum I am building should really begin to start paying off in a few months.

The revenue is $2 or $200? because some people like to use dot (.) instead of comma (,)...

I'm pretty sure nowhere does 2.00 mean 200.
2.000 could mean 2000 (or 2,000), but that doesn't work for hundreds.

On topic, I'm still following this journey and it's probably one of the most informative I've followed so far. Congratulations on your first earnings! :)

He is getting 100 visits and is using ebay affiliate. i not think if he will be making $200. Moreover some time ago he said that that he earned about $5 , i not think if he was able to increase it from $5 to $200-$500/day in that time.

I should have been more detailed as I forget that the world is not living in my mind sometimes... I apologize for that.

It is two dollars ($2.00) to five dollars ($5.00) USD.

I'll try and do better going forward and keep in mind that you can't read my mind and that the cultures here are varied and use different punctuation marks.

The only things I have to say : This guy is outworking every IMer that I know. It's the reason why he will achieve his goal. It takes a lot of commitment to create that amount of content in a very short amount of time.

This thread is gold. It will be interesting to mesure the value of content alone, with very few off site SEO.

Props to BTB

Congrats Greg and thanks for the update. I am certainly following this thread.
Do you mind sharing how much content (# words # posts) is published on the site right now?

Good to see this thread getting updated.
I have a couple of questions

Do you write all you articles in the wordpress editor? Since I am writing them mine in Google docs, I think it's faster, but I have to copy, format and add pictures before i post.

When writing that many articles, do you post "fluff" content. Like a video with short description, infographics, pictures etc. ?

I believe that Greg said earlier in the thread that he is using Dragon NaturallySpeaking and is dictating a lot of his content. I just started trying to dictate. My only tip if you are going to try it - this has been my experience - is to make sure you have clearly defined the purpose and keyword of each page you intend to dictate before you start. The first time I tried dictating I did it on a lark while driving and it was crap. But the next time I had a plan for several pages in a silo, each focused on a keyword and with a specific goal in mind. The results were much better. It still needs clean-up by hand, but I think as I get more accustomed to it I will be able to pump out more content by dictating while driving. Multi-tasking rules.

Can you give us an estimate on how many articles / words of content you've got currently on your site? I lost track during reading :D

Awesome progress dude! How many articles / words you got up roughly now?

Congrats Greg and thanks for the update. I am certainly following this thread.

I'm at 156 articles right now with 7 scheduled to go... word count has to be in the range of 110,000 - 120,000. I'm really not sure about word count though.

I usually use notepad if I am using Dragon and MS Word if I am typing... I like to use them because I do edit what I write before I post but when I add images I do that inside of WP itself.

There is zero fluff in my articles per se... to me this is a business so I treat it fairly responsibly. I do add in images, most of the time, as that is part of SEO (I share how I use them here) and I have no videos on this site but am going to do some as there are a bunch competitng with me in Google so I'll have some made and rank them.

A few infographics might be a good idea but I would have to outsource that as I have zero skills there... that is artistic and there are no artistic bones in my body.

Peek up just a little in this post for an estimate.

Dragon takes a little time to get acclimated to us, or us to it, and does take some training for sure. In general, my Dragon content is a little conversational as opposed to informational so it is a little easier for me. I do use it while in the car but I almost never drive so it is easier for me to concentrate... I imagine that driving it would be much harder.

Dragon is almost a natural fit for me as my typical approach when I write is to write how I talk so what you see here in writing is how I usually converse. A few guys on BHW know me IRL and would tell you the same... I'm a little verbose, a bit annoying and my NY/NJ accent can ruin a person's hearing but I do stay on topic and avoid tangents like the Road Runner avoided anything Acme.

Next Steps in my process:

1) I'll be making sure all those Web 2.0s are indexed and then adding links inside of them. I will also be adding content to those sites that is KW happy but without links out to my site. I want to have between 3 - 5 articles on each after all is said and done with just one out bound link on each Web 2.0 (NOT EACH ARTICLE).

2) Put some videos together. Although that was not part of my initial plan, I follow the business practice that each step you take is predicated on the success of your previous step and the steps of your competition. If you do not know follow business principle you may be missing out on some success in your life. I actually taught a seminar on that to a group a few years ago and one guy in particular (uneducated, got his GED from classes I taught so he is no Rhodes Scholar) took that to heart and now has a successful canoe/kayak rental business using much of that principle. I've yet to decide whether to outsource them or put them together myself as I want to do this entire process with as little outside help as possible so that anyone can do it with little to no cash.

3) Build out some more authority/parasite pages. Those kinds of pages give your site authority backlinking and for a long term site I find them very beneficial to the whole backlinking infrastructure. I use them on all of my sites to get backlinks and do not care if they are do or no follow as they are not in place for your typical link juice. I do a little better job explaining my thoughts on that here.

4) Ease up on the content to the site for the next month or so... I'll add but slow down some. Why? It is the Holidays and the internet slows down... people use it less in general and it would be natural if I did the same for the site. I don't think that is a major factor in G's eyes on a site but even if it is a .01 factor I want to slip that in.
