Authority Site SEO Case Study

Yes, Webmaster tools is great. If your SEO is relatively clean, the Webmaster tools can give you a huge advantage. Lots of insight is offered about your sites when you load them into Webmaster tools.

I just download dragon naturally and it is the best thing I have ever done. I can pump out 30 articles a day with that thing.

I just got it as well. I haven't used it much yet but your recommendation was the tipping point for me in a looooong line of good reviews.

I am a great writer when I want to be and my grammar can be close to impeccable at times, but writing is so darn boring to me. Hopefully if I'm talking then it will be a lot easier and I can pump out at least 5 great ones a day.

Yeah that's the jist of it but you still would need to type a few things or fix a few mistakes manually.

it's pretty cool though. I spent most of yesterday messing around with it and "training" it for my voice and accent.

Are you using Dragon just to dictate rather than type?

You do not silo your sites? What do you think about the silo structure in general? I mean, do you think it really offers an advantage when done correctly?

Yeah it does. but there is lots of work required in a silo. For me it has worked. i also want to know openion of BTB.

The silo structure that you see all over the internet is fine... I know it can be a positive for a site. My thought is that when an image is posted, it is copied EXACTLY by tens of thousands, and that is not always a good thing.

I build my sites with some silo attributes but not exactly as you see them all over the place as my emphasis is more on ranking inner pages for KWs as opposed to the site itself if that makes any sense to you.

Very nice thread. I'm on a similar journey and hence I find your notes and updates very useful.

Saying that, is it worth ranking your main KW and the inner page KW's too?

My main KW is merely a gateway to rank thousands of KWs on a site but, yes, it is worth ranking that as well as the inner pages although my focus is on my inner pages.

The money is almost never in the main KW, it is sitting with the thousands that follow along like little baby ducks.

BTB I have a quick question, I'm in a funny particular niche and this has been bothering me a while on how to approach this... or maybe i'm just thinking too much

My keywords are very closely related and i'm kinda worried about "keyword cannibalization"

Ex:

Widgets for green trucks
Widgets for red trucks
Widgets for blue trucks

And then there's these particular keywords:

Cold widgets for green trucks
Cold widgets for blue trucks

Should I write an article for each different keyword or combine them together?

widgets for green trucks + cold widgets for green trucks in one article

I'm going to assume I write both keywords in one article

I know you're asking BTB but I believe if you write a good, long, and thorough article on cold widgets for green trucks, you will rank for widgets for green trucks by default and vice versa. The key to ranking, at the core, is in the content. That, in reading Greg's posts, is the life blood of his sites. It's not tricky linking tactics, social sharing strategies, or anything like that. It's in thorough, unique, and high quality content.

At any rate, I wanted to post on this journey too as I have begun my own following the steps laid out by BTB. Excellent thread, I think this should get a lot of traction as your activities heat up!

As far as i know cool widgets for green trucks and widgets for green truck can be in same article. but

Cold widgets for green trucks
hot widgets for green trucks

should be on a sub page or can be on main page if topic is very small to make a page about.

I do recommend using Webmaster tools; I use it on all my personal sites... I may not have it set up on all my PBN sites but for my personal ones I certainly do.

I am guessing you are not using the same google account for different sites. That'd be a obvious footprint right..?

Also, your idea of maybe using different email addresses is a good one but if you do that you do not want to have the same advertising account tied to that site.

A bit lost here- So our Webmaster tools account and the adsense account (if we chose that monetary way) should be linked to different email accounts?

Typically what I do, in what appears to be your situation, is this.

I'll have a page about the stronger/mot valuable of the KWs and build that and then pepper in the minor ones. You won't really have much of an issue with a page for the minor ones if you go easy on the KW density but sometimes, once you have your targeted KWs, it is not worth the time and energy to put out content for it.

That make any sense to you?

I use a different Wemaster tools account for different sites using a different email address. The reason I do not use the same adsense account across the board is partly to avoid the dreaded footprint but also because of the fickle nature of the adsense banning team.

I think I said it before and i'll say it again, BTB practices what he preaches..just take a look at his blog and how he writes, the format, the on-page, all the tips and tricks on this thread as far as site setup it's all there (well except the link building) but if you really want to get a visual picture of it just check out his blog

Hey BTB, in regards to the 50 web 2.0 sites you build, when you do link does each web 2.0 link to a different keyword/page? So basically the 50 web 2.0 sites link to 50 pages on your site. Or do you just target a handful of pages/keywords with those 50 web 2.0.

I've been eagerly following along here, as I have a larger site that I'm building out more and more each week. It has over 200 pages now, and the whole backlinking thing has always been the issue. It's hard to know how to backlink when you've got hundreds of pages and potentially thousands of pages in the future. It seems like an overwhelming task if you need to build links to all of those pages.

I do link to different pages with my Web 2.0s and I even link to image and category pages. I use Image SEO as I have talked about so those are relevant and my category pages all have a fair amount of content on them so it makes sense to link to them as well.

Not every page on my sites get backlinked... many do not as they do not need them and I don't think it is really the best idea to link to EVERY page so it is a little more art and a little less science in that area.

do you get sitelinks when typing in your brand name?

Do you mean in Google? Yeah I do. I think most decent sites do from what I have seen.

When you say you use different Webmaster Tools account for your websites, do you use one dedicated IP for each too ?
