Authority Site SEO Case Study

Looking forward to this!
How broad of a niche is too broad for you?You go for "outdoor hobbies", "camping", "camping equipment" or "camping tents" kind of niche?

Outdoor Hobbies is more along the lines of what I would do... the others are way too narrow for me.

I have the same question about getting content I mean 1500 articles

1st isint that alot of investment? even if each article of 500 words is at $3 that is like $4500 investment!

Yes, if I were to outsource that would be a large investment. I'll do a lot of the writing myself but it would not be unusual for me to spend thousands on content. In fact, I used to have a full time writer on my staff back when I was really pushing things.

2nd How long will it take for you to complete the site with 1500 articles, is it going to be spread over 6 months?

It will take longer than 6 months for me to put up 1500 articles... that would be too much too quickly to build the kinds of sites I like to build. It would almost be "Article Stuffing".

Also would love to know about services It would be great help, if you cannot say publicly a pm would be wonderful

I'll share the services I use here; remember I own some so it will be easier for me than some other folks as I'll be paying my costs as opposed to a "retail" price. Also, I won't respond to any PMs about this thread as that defeats the purpose... I was going to build the site anyway and thought that sharing with the whole community would help those that are interested and doing a one-on-one is close to against the TOS here anyway.

This can end up being very interesting. Hope you stick to it, unlike many other "cases" or "journeys"

I'm pretty commited to this... remember I do not have a day job as many do and do this sort of thing more for the satisfaction of a completed project than for the money as I already have a handful of revenue streams coming in.

Good luck OP. I am doing the exact same thing at the moment, I have my content ready and am adding 2-3 articles a day, slowly building up social accounts and using "chaos theory" link building.

50 posts in, only 100 unique's a day at the moment but building nicely.

Looking forward to following your journey and hopefully pick up a few tricks on the way.

Subbed. Always great to follow a case study by a member of your status.

I have a question though, you didn't go much into detail about what you're going to do off-page. Will you only be using PBN links?

I did not give much detail but I did say this "build a new web site... using a dropped domain from my friend, Darko, that has some strong backlinks in place, some of the services I own, a mini private blog network that I will build and some off site manual SEO that fits the bill for this particular site once I get it going". I'l ltry and be 100% transparent on the whole process as I move forward.

The domain is being chased down as we speak so I should have that in a day or so as he is taking care of clients first. I'll share the off-site SEO as it happens so you are aware of what is happening.

BTW, I would never do just PBN links... I don't think that is the best strategy for the kinds of sites I like to build. I will have a couple or so in there as I own a few PBNs of my own that are used only on my sites.

How exactly are you going to use the mini pbn to build links to your site? Would you be focusing more upon pointing links to your homepage?

When it comes to doing that I'll share what I am doing. It is way to early to plan how I'm going to backlink the site because part of that decision making process is dependent on what Google does as to ranking the content as it stands.

But, to answer part of your question, I almost never backlink to the root pages of my sites... almost never.

Best of luck BassTrackerBoats, I will follow along and no doubt get some great information :)

You mentioned that you used to have a full time writer on your team. I am wondering why you do not anymore?

I'm not building like I was at one time; there was a time when I had several authority sites being built at the same time and actually had the full time guy as well as some freelancers to fill in as there was just too much content for one man.

Going to follow this journey. I am sure that I will learn a lot. Started a site of my own with about 70 articles a while back and this may be the kickstart I need to get going on it again. Thanks for starting this journey.

Awesome. Looking forward to the case study because I'm working on building an authority site myself after reading some of your other posts.

Thank you for taking the time to document your methods and progress BTB. I'm sure this will be an epic journey thread!

Well I guess this will turn into one of the best journey/case study threads. I hope that we can all learn a thing or two with you. Subscribed and let the learning begin :)

Niche is chosen - think entertainment and sports (ESPN) but very broad in nature.

Domain in hand (Thanks Darko!); aged domain, with some nice aged backlinks and a few with PR. Domain is strong in nature as to the name as well as the backlinks in place.

I don't look at, nor use, any of the commercial tools that are out there that check for DA, PA, TF blah, blah, blah, etc. I could care less about that sort of thing; as long as there is no penalty associated with the domain, I'm good and there is not.

My main concern is backlink profile.

I put up a WP site with some generic images (properly named ofc) and added 2 articles (both indexed almost instantly) with a total of 3655 words. I did not target any KWs in those articles and probably won't do any targeting for another 8,000 words or so. The articles are general in nature about the niche and I use a lot of generic content about the niche when I build a site as a platform.

I could care less about them being SEO articles as when building an authority site you want to have a very broad base of content that is general in nature (about the niche ofc) before doing any targeted posts.

If you read how I do KW research you will have read about conversational content and that is all I have on there for now.

I also have not gone looking for KWs yet but will get on that today and should have them in hand by Friday and I expect to put together another 4 - 5 thousand words for the site by then as well.
