I'm currently researching for an authority site and since it's my first time I want to make sure I'm not making a huge mistake. I'm currently basing my site off a very broad niche, and in that niche I have 4-7 smaller categories that the main article is based on keywords that have 2k-15k searches per month.

In those smaller categories I found 10-15 different keywords for each category which range from 250-1500 searches per month with nearly zero competition. So obviously these won't drive hundreds of visits per day but each should drive 3-15 searches a day and once they are all added together and along with the category keywords once they are ranked I should have a fair amount of visits.

I'm just wondering if this is an effective strategy for an authority site.

Yes this is a great idea. Not only does it add to your kw diversity it gives you small "rewards" along the way.

Yes..Its good..but find more keywords and do some SEO..You can drive 1000s of visitors daily :)

Yeah, I mean I have found around 60 of the smaller easy to rank kw's, and that was just the few that I picked out when I was scanning through Longtail Pro, I can easily find probably around 100-500 more small kws to rank for.

You have a decent idea to start, but just remember:

You don't have an authority site!

You have niche site.

An authority site has been around for a bit, has more than one topic, and has lots of inbound links.
Build it. Then build more. Then build a huge Authority site.

The word AUTHORITY SITE gets thrown around too much. A real authority site is something like wikipedia, space dot com, webmd, a site you instantly go to on a said subject. A high pr site that is trusted in the big G's eyes.

But yeah, what you want to do it set up a silo structured architecture where you target each main keyword as a category, with the secondary keywords as page or posts to funnel the theme flow to each category. If you get it up right, you'll have a solid seo'd site that'll rank high.

Good luck

Yes, my mistake on the authority part, but hopefully it will become an authority :p.

But thanks, i'm not sure if I will want to make a journey thread. I won't give up on the website, but I don't want to give up on the journey and leave people hanging.
