I'm currently researching for an authority site and since it's my first time I want to make sure I'm not making a huge mistake. I'm currently basing my site off a very broad niche, and in that niche I have 4-7 smaller categories that the main article is based on keywords that have 2k-15k searches per month. In those smaller categories I found 10-15 different keywords for each category which range from 250-1500 searches per month with nearly zero competition. So obviously these won't drive hundreds of visits per day but each should drive 3-15 searches a day and once they are all added together and along with the category keywords once they are ranked I should have a fair amount of visits. I'm just wondering if this is an effective strategy for an authority site.
