Follow me as I (hopefully) build something awesome...

My Background
I've dabbled with IM for around 3/4 years, first being introduced to the world of SEO and such-like via GPT sites. I used these sites and saw people making $x.xx from thousands of referrals and I thought...I want to do that. How are they doing that? A bit of googling later and my journey began. I made my website(s) on my niche. It was competitive; very competitive, a lot of people had the same idea. But through trial & error (and investment of time & some money) I managed to successfully rank the website(s) in #1 position for several of the main keywords. I made roughly $5000 over the course of 2 years through GPT referrals, AdSense and CPA offers with this niche. There were gaps in between these 2 years as the first website ranked and burned. It should and could have been a lot more.

Unfortunately, I was still very naïve and didn't really completely understand what I was doing. They ended up being 2 rank, bank and burn websites thanks to the Google updates. I lost heart and motivation; I was also struggling with anxiety and depression at the time and was down on myself; so instead of saying to myself 'you did it, you ranked these websites and made good money, you can do it again with different, better & more long-term niches', I gave up. It's a horrible illness and it really clouds your mind and judgement; you feel like you have no belief in yourself, and so I left IM for the easy safety of my boring 9-5 job. (Yes, I'm a f*cking idiot, but an idiot with reasons haha!)

My New-Found Motivation & Aims
The niche I was in no longer exists, so there's no option to go back to that unfortunately! However, I am now free of anxiety and depression. I'm no longer down on myself. I have heart, motivation, determination, knowledge and the will to succeed. I know I can do this. I have a wonderful girl in my life driving me on and I want to build a future online so I can give us the best life possible. I'm tired of the boring, draining 9-5 routine. I don't care if it's harder work (and it will be), I'm passionate about it and I know I can do it. I've done well before online, I have a good knowledge of SEO and IM in 2017 and it's time to get back in the game.

My Strategy
I have a topic (or hobby if you like) that I'm particularly passionate about. I know it inside & out. This is going to be my niche. Obviously I won't be revealing what it is, but it's a popular subject. I want to build an 'authority' site stacked full of great content for people like me who have a passion for it. I plan to build social pages alongside my website to diversify my traffic sources and monetize the site with AdSense and Amazon. I have my work cut out for me; one particular website has a strong advantage over me in that it's established and has been for nearly a year. But I'm confident I can more than match them for content and user experience.

My Progress
The website was created at the start of this month and I've been adding content on a daily basis to start building the different categories that come with my niche. I've written all of the content myself as I'm quite a competent writer; the articles are all 900-1600 words and completely cover the topic. It's a niche where there is so much to write about, so I'll always have new content to please Google and my visitors with. The 'base' of the website, i.e. the range of topics to cover, is complete. My task now is to keep adding to the various categories and cover the entire spectrum of my niche.

My social pages are built on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. My first focus will mainly be on Facebook, as Facebook Marketing/Ads is an area I've tested and had decent success with. Not really through monetizing pages, but certainly through building them. I will be beginning an ad campaign to build Page Likes shortly.

For now, I'm building a small base of likes and followers using Link Collider. Are the likes and followers relevant? Nope. But they build a 'numbers' base and make the page look more popular than it currently is. That's my theory anyway. Would you be more likely a page that has 20 likes, or 200 likes? I'd feel more comfortably if more people already liked it, so that's the purpose of these free likes.

Google has indexed my website completely now, and seems to be liking the content as I've gone straight in around the #60-#70 positions as an average for some key terms and high volume searches. I plan to keep adding content at the moment and creating social shares using Link Collider and my own pages, and then I will be purchasing link packages from the BHW Marketplace. I've had success with one particular seller before, so I plan to try his packages out first.

That's my journey so far! Hopefully I've persuaded you to follow me and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. If I can answer them I will. As long as they're not 'what's your niche'. I'll do mostly daily or bi-daily updates; it'll help keep me motivated to write about my progress! Here we go... :)

Sounds very nice. Good luck to you and keep us updated.

Are you doing something within the entertainment niche? I must say I've been through the google penalty slap depression phase twice already in the past 5 years... I understand where you're coming from man. It takes time to pick yourself up and get motivated again, so glad to hear you're back at it. Good luck!

Sound like a plan. My 2 cents is don't monetize using adsense, you'll regret it later like most advertisers do. Good luck.

Yes, it is in the entertainment niche. It really crushed me but was a valuable lesson and I'm the sort of guy who needs to make mistakes to truly learn from them!

Howcome? I'm more familiar with CPA/Amazon than Adsense so I may have missed something there, although I didn't have a problem previously. Is there anything you'd recommend instead?

You shouldn't depend on the same company for your SEO and ads IMO.

Amazon is fine because you control what you sell (you don't control anything about the adsense ad inventory) but ideally you should have a product you can sell directly.

DAY 10 UPDATE

Consider my opening post day 1-9. I want to try and document it all as I go along; not only as it could possibly help followers of this thread if all goes to plan, it helps me keep track of what I've done and when.

RANKINGS

keywords_july17.png

As you can see, my content has been up less than 10 days and is showing up in Google for some hefty search terms; I'll take that as a promising sign! Zero Off-Page SEO has been done to these pages. These are not entirely the keywords I'm aiming for - it's early days yet so I'm not going to start tracking everything properly until probably the weekend with Serpbook. The 7,400 search term is particularly promising given the search volume, CPC and Ahrefs keyword difficulty rating...

TODAY'S COMPLETED TASKS
  • Wrote two 1000+ word articles for two key pages (aka the money pages) - these two pages will be targeted with Amazon and CPA offers. Spent most of today working on them to make sure they looked good and read good for the visitor.
  • Started firing social shares via Link Collider at my inner pages. Until now it's been sending social shares to my homepage and likes/followers to my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
  • Created a Facebook Ads campaign for my page. We'll see how the cost-per-like goes. I know there's been some trouble with page reach lately so I'm taking it cautiously and setting my budget very low to see how it goes.
JULY EXPENDITURE
Domain: £8.32
Hosting: £9.15
Facebook Ads: TBA

JULY INCOME
Amazon: £0.00
Adsense: £0.12
CPA: £0.00

OVERVIEW
So the plan over the rest of the week is to keep producing good content, firing out the social shares and build up my social following. At the weekend is when I'll push some link building campaigns at the pages.

Thanks for sharing your ideas, it will help people who wants to monetize their site using adsense and amazon.

DAY 11-12 UPDATE

RANKINGS

Pointless posting screenshots at this stage as it's very early days, but most of my pages are bouncing around from between #20-#90 for some big & key search terms. There's one page in-particular that Google seems to have taken a bit of a shine too, sitting on Page 2 for some good terms without any off-page SEO being done, so that might be the first link-building focus alongside the money pages to get the traffic flowing in.

DAY 11-12 COMPLETED TASKS
Began my Facebook Page Ads Campaign - My niche is very popular so I expected difficulty here, but currently paying £0.04 a like for US/UK likes which I'm pretty happy with. That figure is dropping when calculating Money Spent divided by Page Likes so progressing well. Budget is only £2 a day at the moment to test the waters but if it continues to go well I'll be ramping that figure up a little bit more.
Wrote More Content For Website - Two more 1000+ word articles went up yesterday and today which Google indexed very quickly; a good sign! A bit of big news broke earlier today but unfortunately I was at my 9-5 and couldn't post the story on my website/social media to catch the early traffic which was rather frustrating. Hey ho.
Optimized Website For Page Speed - This is proving a struggle at the moment. Not my strong area and what Google wants me to do to speed it up is completely foreign to me. My server response time is a whopping 2.1 seconds and my host can't seem to help me with this issue? What would be causing such a high response time? Any suggestions are most appreciated!

OVERVIEW/PLAN
More content writing and social media building for the rest of the week with slow link building beginning on Sunday.

I have done quite a bit of research over the last year and am eager to delve into Amazon Affiliate.
How possible is it through hard work and persistence for a newbie person like me to make decent money via this means? And of course I'm thinking long term action.

If you're willing to work hard, persist and do your keyword research right you can achieve long-term. Getting the right niche & keywords is crucial.

DAY 13-17 UPDATE

RANKINGS
Organic Keywords:
293 (+91 from Day 12)
Keywords continue to bounce around Page 2-4 for nearly all of my key articles. Can't really report much on this at the moment.

SOCIAL
Facebook Page Likes:
991
Twitter Followers: 104

COMPLETED/UPCOMING TASKS
Content -
Continued adding more and more content to the website. I'm close to covering every aspect of my niche and then I just need to work on improving the articles wherever I can and adding to them when necessary + adding new content as and when my niche develops. The content is all there for the traffic when it arrives.
Continued Facebook Ad campaign - I'm now paying 0.025p a like, down from 0.04. The advert is going very well and my likes are rising nicely. I'm starting to get more interaction on my social posts so hopefully organic likes are going to start shortly. Social Media is going to be very important for this.
Link Building - I get paid from my 9-5 on Friday and have allocated funds to begin this. I was planning to do it last weekend but the site is still under a month old and bouncing about. I have a mix of services picked out for it, just need to decide what pages I want to target first.

Out of these 293 keywords, how many articles have you wrote?

interesting journey .......... you write real good. interesting to se how google will value this :)

Out of these 293 keywords, how many articles have you wrote?

There's 15 'main' articles on the site with sort of sub-articles being built around them.

looks good
is it a new or aged domain?

Brand new domain, 1 month old on Friday.

interesting journey .......... you write real good. interesting to se how google will value this :)

Thank you! Everyone's gotta be half-good at something right? :p Hoping it will value it highly!

Nice journey. Good luck, and I am following the progress :-)

START OF AUGUST UPDATE
Apologies for the slow updates but there really wasn't much new information to add. The site's been live for just over a month now and continues to grow. Here's some facts and figures:

AHREFS OVERVIEW

p0hWVqS

As you can see, backlinks have started to be picked up from my link building package. That order should be completed by the end of the week, very excited to see where it propels my big money page too. Keyword rankings haven't really moved since my last update.

SOCIAL MEDIA
Facebook Likes:
1601
Twitter Followers: 170

The Facebook page is getting good engagement and continues to be the main source of traffic for the website through my articles. My cost-per-like was down to £0.02 and heading towards £0.015 when I paused it which I'm very happy with for USA and UK likes. Money is a bit tight this month, hence the pausing. It will resume shortly and continue building the page. Twitter I haven't really focused on yet - I have no experience in Twitter Ads and time-restraints are preventing organic building right now.

AUGUST INCOME
CPA:
$3.20
AdSense: $6.37
GPT: 10 Sign-ups, $1

I used my free Bing Ads voucher on testing my money page to see if it would convert and the results were fairly promising. I'd never done any sort of PPC ads before but I got plenty of clicks and 2 conversion from 20 clicks on my CPA site. If I can increase that conversion and hit top rankings for my keywords, that should be a good returner! The AdSense has come from a combination of Facebook traffic and the Bing Ad. I also added a section on my website aiming to gain GPT referrals and this generated 10 sign-ups from around 30 clicks. Unfortunately the GPT site isn't what it used to be so won't be used as a regular source (if you've dabbled with GPT, you know the site) so the page will be purely aimed at converting my CPA offers now. It was worth a test with a free coupon.

The CPA and AdSense figures are encouraging and provided much needed motivation! Let's see what happens if my money page starts to rank....

FUTURE PLANS
Much of the same really. Keep adding content to the website, keep growing the Facebook page and engaging it and continue building links to key pages. It's very much a slow-build, long-term project.
