After reading about the Indexing API multiple time on BHW - I gave it a try myself with 2 fresh PAA pages.

That's the results:

For the first 2-3 weeks it's excellent - super-fast indexation and growing impressions/clicks every day.

But this changed after this period (14-21 days) and both pages lost almost all visibility and haven't recovered since. (For context, expired domains with some DA + ai generated PAA content)

For comparison, this is one of my pages w/o indexing API, but a stronger domain.

IMHO way better to go with an expired domain with some previous rankings than trying to shortcut via indexing API.

Who uses an indexation service for a traffic site?

Do you know how most indexation service works? They are actually kind of damaging and serve for a simple purpose: indexing pages that cannot be indexed in another way.
Imagine if you blast 10K links to a parasite that may last at best 2 months. Are you going to wait 2 months for 70% of those links to index naturally or are you going to work your way with your own expired domain site creation just for that amout of sh*t?

You are going to purchase an indexation service, if this is your daily bread and butter.

So basically, you need to dig a little more on BH techniques, specially if you intend to use them deliberately.

The bright side is that, incidentally, you have learnt a lesson by yourself.

This is actually true, I have told not to use Google Indexing API many times but people thinks I am saying this because I am selling my indexing service which is not true.

Google introduced Indexing API for such websites which updates too frequent.

Here is what they says

"Currently, the Indexing API can only be used to crawl pages with either JobPosting or BroadcastEvent embedded in a VideoObject . For websites with many short-lived pages like job postings or livestream videos, the Indexing API keeps content fresh in search results because it allows updates to be pushed individually."

Why you noticed sudden boost after using Indexing API?
- Indexing API keeps content fresh in search results and google loves fresh content.

You lost ranking because your pages no more fresh for google so there is no reason to give them boost.

Same things happen when you use google news website for indexing your pages/links they gives sudden boost but ranking start dropping after some time.

If we're publishing 50,000 pages today and I know GSC isn't taking that many URLs in a week (via sitemaps) I would use the Google indexing API to get pages that weren't discovered via sitemap so it can start crawling other pages.

I said this myself because it happened to one of my legit sites. Google tell you to use it for Job Posting so the content will be fresh and it won't matter if later it loses ranking or get deindexed.

This actually a bit more profound than I gave it credit for, if you have a smaller site and you're using Rankmath or GSC's indexing API and wondering what's happening to your URLs this is it.

I think this happened to one of my smaller sites earlier this year. It was small enough to index every page w/ the API and the rankings never came back.

Again Correlation != Causation

Just looking at couple of pages, we can't conclude that Indexing API leads to the content being treated as short term content. That is thinking too much into what Google is capable of doing, what its intentions are and what it can actually bake into algorithm.

and sometimes its just Google updating stuff here and there which lead to this kind of behaviour.

The best way to check it is stop using Google Indexing API on one of the sites and keep posting content and then see if there is any change in the way google ranks the content.

What I certainly don't agree with is abusing the API to index junk stuff, it will eventually lead to some kind of throttling from Google.

PS: Nobody will using Indexing API if Google Indexing was not broken for even genuine websites.

You might attribute this drop to fresh page rank boost which is still a thing. New pages jump ahead for some time and then settle at a more suitable place.

Burning websites if you false indexing with google hammer any time.

Natual indexing only way.

Fast indexing grate for afflicate website

Exspired domain are another ban possabilty got to be careful.

So what best my opioin.

Natual indexing from your articles.
Long term.
