The R9 would be my preference, I'm running the R9 right now in SLI and the performance is incredible. Really though, either one will work fine, even if you're looking to play games like "Crysis" with maxing out the graphics. They're both enthusiasts cards so they'll just about handle anything you throw at it (Unless you're planning on doing some heavy duty 3D rendering) so just pick whatever fits your budget and go for it. Neither will disappoint.
I would say go for Nvidia. While R9 270x seem to work better in higher resolutions (>1080p), Gtx 760 is a better overall performer. Tbh if I were you I would simply get a cheapo PS4 and reinvest money.
nvidia IMO has a great GPU for the money. They seem to out perform ATI when you have the same specs. I personally given the choice always choose nvidia when I can they have just proven themselves to me over the years. ATI used to be a great card but then AMD bought them and for some reason the product has suffered a little. Might just be in my head but it seems that way at least.
