I am working on a recipe website and most recipe articles fall between 300 to 400 words. Most recipe sites seem to average the same or less. My question is should I not worry about word count or should I make articles longer?

I don't believe word count matters. Just have good content.

It's a recipe site, and some articles may come with 200 words only, so need not to worry about them, just concentrate to give exact images and details for the recipes.

You're fine with however long they end up being, they are recipes, a human reviewer would realize that and grade your website accordingly.

400 words are more than enough. People rank their pages with far less. What matters, is how much authority your domain carries. I see 50-200 word articles on pages ranking every day.

I would help a lot if there's a video added to those 400-word articles.

quality content very important, more important than words count. but stay natural, 500 words articles all the times won't look so natural.

You want to say that article with 1k words is better than your ? ? By my experience people actually love to read short articles than a long detailed ones

Word count doesn't matter as long as all the details are there. Stick to having quality content.

Different types of keywords work with different types of word counts. For example, a "how to" keyword would generally require a longer article than a keyword looking for some online calculator. Google is getting better at recognizing content type and their relation to a users query. If your competitors are all ranking with short recipe articles, then you will be fine also. Don't buy into the "every article must be 500 words long" hype.

Focus on quality. With quantity you wont be more successful.

It also depends about the topic you are writing about.

I'm sure that if you have a good quality content you mustn't worried about word count in your articles. Unic photos are more important for recipe site

Quality matters not the length of articles. As long as quality of articles are good, don't worry about words count.

All you have to do write good content. Number of words is not a big matter.
