Articles for $2 what do you think?

Before you start worrying about whether you are underpaying him, have you commissioned him to write any articles?

I would get him to write, say, 5 initial articles initially on 5 different subjects and then make a decision based on his quality.

There's nothing wrong with paying him $2/300 words if that is his price, but bear in mind he came up with that figure with no knowledge of the industry. If at any point he does some research and realises he has pitched himself too low, you could lose his services.

If he is good and you think there could be a long-term relationship, then pay him more.

Sounds good as long as he is happy with it. Although I doubt he'd be able to make anything happen with that kindda money.

My advice is to go ahead, check the QUALITY of the articles, the Turn Around Time, dependability etc....
then suggest that you would be willing to pay him on a retainer basis for excellent work etc....
some people are happy with self-worth, money is not the main driver for these people to get motivated,
so until and unless it arises in the future, stay calm and carry on

Check similar price points in BST section to keep any future suggested increase of rates within doable parameters,
or else he/she might change and become greedy... its human nature!!
