Are you comfortable entering your keywords into a web based rank tracker?

Web based (cloud) rank trackers (SERP trackers) are so convenient!

But keywords are somewhat trade secrets. Usually the people who run a rank tracker service, they also have a SEO company... Won't they just steal my keywords? Or worse, report all my websites to Google (because I am a competition to their paid link building campaigns to their clients)?

Or am I just paranoid? But when you use a web based rank tracker, you give all your keywords and website URLs to a third party.

never thought about this really
but i dont think they steal keywords or report to google
Maybe if u feel paranoid about this u can use a local keyword rank tracker
like cute rank thats the one i use and it check mt keywords page rank
twice a day

You are just being paranoid. Their business is providing rankings - lot of their clients are just normal websites who want to know how they rank, not game Google. Nothing to "report to Google".

So do you think it is safe to use cloud based rank trackers?

You are being paranoid :)

No legit business will do this. Trust is something which exists among the blackhatters too. Few incidents doesn't mean that the whole industry is rippin you off. You won't be able to do business online if you are stuck in meaningless trans-static questions like these.

Besides the concept of keyword being a trader secret is quite fundamental theory. Sometime or later, you will face competition. :)

Off course paranoid
no worries...
if u think so...just think...they should take look on tons of kw per day...
or just think ...what happens when u give your kws to an seo guy for link building :P :P

I'll tell you this - it's enough of a time investment making sure that the crawlers, parsers & all of the daily maintenance goes that I can barely even think about time to look in people's accounts. The only time that I even have time is when people put a ticket in and ask for me to review something.

There's simply not enough time in the day, and it's not my job to try to take people's keywords. After all, what would taking keywords from someone do besides give me more work to do, and less time to do it in? It's simply a bad ROI decision to even consider doing it. At least that's my 2 cents. :)

Never had a problem and I must have tried most, however it could be because I have the most incredible knack of getting crap keywords.

I think your too worried, such websites get way too much traffic to steal keywords and keep track of everything :)

Report you? I highly doubt that...

Steal your keywords? I highly suspect so...

And that's why I made a multi-site/multi keyword serp tracker as a wordpress plugin. That way I know my keywords aint going anywhere ;)

Ideally, anyone can steal your keywords. The guy who you pay $5 to on fiverr to do a blast could steal your keyword.

A company has so many clients, it would be a waste of time to steal every keyword. Not to mention that it is unethical. If a business steals keywords then it will ruin their reputation, which is a million times more valuable then a simple keyword.

It's safe...if somebody wants to know what keyword you are ranking for,it's not hard to do it...just keep building your site up and earn money.

Just a side question - Is the keyword what's valuable, or is the content on the site? If the content is really strong then they can steal the keywords all they want and won't beat you on the rankings, especially if you have good SEO.

This is a similar debate to whether or not people will steal your method. If the method is difficult and takes time, few will "steal" it. They will have to work at it, and no one wants to do that.
