Had a discussion with a friend last night about localization vs globalization. I was arguing that everything "socially concerned" people care about (the environment, fair wages, etc.) can be improved by promoting localization and limiting globalization.

I was called out for being "part of the problem" since I use foreign VAs, etc.

So, first question: what do you think of the concept that globalization should be limited?

Second question: what will happen when standard of living is similar across the globe and there no longer is the financial benefit of outsourcing (menial IM tasks) to cheaper countries?

There will never be a standard of living around the world that is the same or similar. Too many nations and/or their sub jurisdictions(states, provinces, counties, cities etc.) make really poor choices that prohibit economic growth.

I'm not smart enough to give answers to such questions. There are so many differences even within small countries that I think the working scene will always be ever-changing and ever exploitable.

I think that here making the wages "fair" has developed a hole that is being filled with cheap labor. As a worker thought, I've moved around enough after better pay to not mind it.

Still, for personal feelings, I wouldn't mind globalization being more limited.

For the latter question, at this moment it seems too utopistic to me. If such a thing would happen things would have started to adapt long before it came to that point I guess?

Edit: Also, for the picture. You might devalue local wages, but for the ones getting the wage we see as "cheap", it would still be creating jobs and increasing their livelihood somewhat where they live right?

Its never going to happen, so its not worth wasting brain cpu cycles on. Globalisation will keep expanding, and standards of living will never be similar across the globe.

UK min wage is about 70p I think below what a "living wage" should be...

Sometimes the work ethic when going to other countries can be improved vs that of the country you operate from. The attitude of our Philippines customer service is way above and beyond anyone I had from the UK doing that job!

Your second question won't happen.

Limited globalization means slow sharing of technology and progress of growth of human civilization will be way slower.

It will never happen because every country in the world has its own set of issues which jeopardize their growth. For instance, our place has lots of union bodies who constantly keep protesting against things like Electricity dam creation, privatization of roads, setup of industries etc. which are necessary for the development of the area. You get the picture nonetheless I believe.

We are in a collective suicide trend.
Problem is not how much baddies there are but the large amount of manipulated morons (billions) there are.
We wont pass through this decade.
Yours is a wrong question dear @paydette

Ever heard of programmers working for $100 per month? I swear I have seen such job posts in India. Those guys are crappy and probably noobs... But still, $100 is just too little. Someone would probably earn more than that in a week cutting grass in UK i guess.

What you're offering them is still quite an upgrade for them. It's not bad. So, don't feel bad please.

As for the concept of globalization, I really do think it should happen; for the betterment of human race as a whole. I wish to see a borderless globe in my lifetime.

Probably should happen, but, for sure not everyone will want that, everyone is different.

Of course lol. I am probably imagining utopia.

It would be interesting to see what kind of economic growth a privately run city-state could achieve where the policies set encourage maximum economic growth. Basically a mixture of Dubai and Las Vegas, where the laws revolving personal activities reflect Las Vegas more.

Hiring foreign VAs is not problem.Hiring remote employees is not problem. Creating more jobs or sustainable business in other countries is not problem.
Exploiting the vulnerable and unprivileded people of poorer countries for only profit is the problem. Nike, Forever 21, Apple, H&M, and Hollywood Celebritis lifestyle product line comapnies etc.

There are some major companies like IBM, Capgemini, Tata, Wipro, and Lilly have behaved ethically on global stage and they've materilisaed the good idea of globalization sustanaibly.

But companies like Nike and H&M etc are :devil: Their revenue and profit is blood money and they have audacity to virtue signal in their campaigns!

There will ever be enough of a grass roots movement to grow into a groundswell in favor of localization rather than globalization to make enough of a noticeable impact. IT would take everyone getting on board with an idea and we can't even agree on accepting and allowing everyone to have their own religious fairy tales without killing in the name of a loving god.

If you're looking at things from a local perspective, then yes.
If you're looking at things from a global one, then no.

You're contributing to increasing the over-all income of the world. People in 3rd world country as humans too, they need a decent wage too. You're helping them out and ensuring they don't risk their lives to migrate into your nation where the wages are high.

Globalization rebukefully influences the social partners' attitudes, yet traditional labour relations have to cope with completely new and very dynamic situations, Construct fluctuations, Changes in paradigm of work.
Yup, ever the Globalization are limited.
And, never the standard of living will be similar across the globe, and detain Outsourcing.

But the first issue you missed... should we curb the effects of globalization? Should we continue to export low level tasks when we have a sizeable domestic population that cannot do high level tasks?
