Are we really creating anything valuable for the web?

I know this is a black hat forum but doesn't thoughts like that bother your mind sometimes?
For example i make money with a few micro niche sites and fiverr link building gigs. I'm not making much however i have to do very little work. However i doubt that the visitors of my ugly MNS really find anything valuable (which explains the high bounce rate lol).
Or are the social network spammers providing any value? Or the owners of affiliate websites which tell the visitor anything just to sell the product that they haven't even tried?

Just curious about your thoughts.

This is something that I've thought much about. Like for say, ClickBank. The products that we promote are complete bullsh*t according to me. And by writing these "fake" reviews, we are basically tricking all the visitors. I would be pissed if I read great reviews of a product all over the web, and when I've bought it, it's just cr*p.

Damn, I'll quit promoting Clickbank from now on! :)
 
I only promote and sell what I would think be worthy of buying. I don't polish shit and sell it. Nor do I try to make fake reviews and make seem like the polished shit is actually a gold bar.

So no, I don't worry what I do. It's what others do that bother me.
 
Nope we are not creating anything useful we are such leeching ;) at least that's what i think
 
Exactly, i'm here to learn about what others are doing. Sometimes i approve, often times i don't. I just keep my head up, and always remember that everyday something is being made to make my life easier. But i'm not pushing jamster ringtones to 13 year old girls.

You dont have to spam like hell to make money on the web. I have some niche sites but they are useful enough. My bigger sites I view as web real estate...ie I expect to keep building them for years to come. My best site is a brilliant source of information and I dont advertise one thing on that site. It does however lead people to my offline business which helps me make real money not adsense pennies.

As for myself, I no longer believe in 'Selling the dream'. How can I sell something I don't believe in? It's all complete bullshit. 99% of whats on clickbank or ANY cpa account is scam/fraud/lies. The only difference between network marketing/MLM and peddling the bs offers from CPA/clickbank sites is that one encourages you to sell to your friends/family and the other requires you spam it everywhere for it to work.

You never see Porsche or Ferrari commercials.. Why? Because people with the money to afford one if they wanted one, already have one. Their friends had one, their family. When you have a shitty product, you polish it up, pour some snake oil on it, and advertise the living hell out of it. You need to SELL it.

After nearly 10 years in this field, I have finally come to the conclusion that it is simply not worth it to gain the world only to lose my soul.

Most everyone on here is trying to better their lives, their families life. The intentions are good. The reasoning is not.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Many of these IM products seem to revolve around creating a bogus product then having other people to perpetuate this product. It's almost like spamming in today's IM world, only we do it a little smarter by duping people the product is valuable with fake reviews and all that.
 
I have an ecommerce website selling great physical products at prices much lower than all my competitors, so yes, I am creating value for users of my site. I wouldn't engage in bullshit black hat when I could be doing something useful.
 
That question comes to my mind very often. So I am starting new projects with the spare money, just for the sake of it. To be more wild and when revenue isnt the goal, the only goal is to create something new.
 
I work purely with price comparison sites and I've thought about this too. If the price comp sites weren't there, getting in the way, people would just go direct to the merchants?

The truth is that people don't have time to open up 10 websites and manually search for the best deal. They want to see all the prices in a table. The other benefit of price comp sites is that it encourages the merchants to be competitive on price.

Adding a ton of presale articles really doesn't add anything valuable, but you can blame Google for that one. If you don't you're seen as a 'thin affiliate' site.
 
Doing SEO for others is useful as they have real products or a real business and you feel good when they succeed. You can go to bed knowing that you played a part in their success and you also get compensated for it.

Also there are quite a few people doing Amazon and actual sites with real products, even though it is not yours if you can provide insight or value to a customer and then get a sale its a good thing. How many times have you suggested a product to someone then they bought it and you got nothing for it? Doing it online is similar only you get paid for it.

On the other hand reviewing a product you have never seen or used is walking that line of just doing or saying anything to make a buck..and yes I have been guilty of that.

i don't want to write about forex or loans or that as I've no interest.
I am enjoying learning web design tho so even if I don't create something of value web wise I'm creating value to me in terms of better education and learning
Also my site is my project and I've an interest in it
 
Interesting topic, and one which I think about now and then.

It does disturb me that we have the best invention in the history of man right here (the Internet) and we IM'ers spend most of our time making it worse. What we can hope to do is make some money, then when we have our secure income, think of something new. Something that makes the world a better place.

I think in the same way about it. Last night it was hard to make me sleep because of thinking of it. How to create new things, how to create something that really helps people. I guess ideas will come soon. :)
 
Quality will stand the test of time and everything else will fade away. I spent my first year in IM doing what I thought would make me money, playing clever tricks on the se thinking it would get me ahead. If I invested the same amount of time in making quality, instead of quantity; I would be 10X better than I am now. Get rich quick did not happen for me but I'm not giving up. From here on my focus is to provide value to the people that visit my sites. I think of it like a party, if you invite million people to your party but only have one bag of chips and no beer the people will leave and tell their friends it sucked. But if you have a fully catered spread with an open bar and only invite 5 (influential people) they will tell their friends to come and so on and so forth. I put the horse before the cart for to long and learned my lessons.
 
Everyday I pump out spammy posts on social networks to earn fractions of a $ in avertising revenue, I need $100 a day to pay my bills and expenses and every day I pump out enough mindless rubbish to achieve my goals. Every day I think, I am helping to turn the internet into a crappy resource and thats why i never scale it beyond $100 a day. Everyday I think to myself, If only I could have a killer idea to make something useful for people and still get my $100 a day fix. That day hasnt arrived yet, but hopefully one day soon.
 
some people make wars where tens of thousands of people die. in worst case i make some link spam and poor content. no, i really don't feel bad about it.
 
My first excursion into blackhat SEO stuff was with BANS sites, for some reason the $1k/month/site pitch seemed plausible at the time and I made about 30 of them. Back then it was pretty easy pickins, EMD, kw's emphasized up top, spam some backlinks, $.

Eventually I got disgusted and abandoned them, I felt like I was really bottom-feeding on longtails, the sites were ugly and providing absolutely no value, just exploiting a flaw in google and filling the web with redundant garbage. I couldn't even say "at least the money's good."

My inspiration after that was Google News. It inspired me to build automatic content sources that were as good, if not better, than human-driven sources were, and to not focus on search traffic for visitors.
