Dig a trench around your house, then fill it with water so that it looks like a mini moat.
Go got your local butchers and get a selection of animal bones and scatter them liberally around your garden.
Get a sign made up that says "Be aware of the Alligator"

Legally registered and if I decided to bring it out in public I would be going to jail. Even using it on my own property would get me into trouble. Personally when the town I was living in got too rough I decided to work hard,earn as much as I could and moved. Nobody needs to be trained like Chuck Norris just to get a nights sleep.
That weapon I linked will tear an empty beer can apart with two barrels at the end of my garden ie 20ish yards

There's a lot more to self defence than the weapon.
In some circumstances if you pull a weapon it will get you killed.
You need to survey your surroundings and choose natural choke points,
Using these choke points you limit his options. An open window is my favourite.
Wait by it out of sight and when they struggle through the window impale them on a two ended lightsaber spinning around like Darth maul.
Failing that a claw hammer adjusts attitudes fairly quickly.
