As we all know, press releases are a pretty old strategy to get backlinks. But I haven't really seen any case studies or people talking about them much (services such as prweb.com or some of the services that are available on BHW).

Does anyone have experience with them?

I am considering a press release on prweb, it costs $100 for a basic one but I'm just curious about whether these have any value at all. I believe most links will be nofollowed, but I would still like to diversify my link profile thanks to some halfwit who decided to overoptimize my best keywords.

Not penalized for them, but Google does do some pretty retarded shit and I want to be on the safe side.

You also want PR for authority to your site... they may not pass link juice in the sense that we talk about LJ but they do offer authority to your site which is a long term benefit.

You won't get an immediate jump in the search engines typically but over the long haul you want authority links, do or no follow, linking in and, in your case, they will help diversify your link profile and anchor text if you set things up properly.

    Thanks for your response.

I am curious about how some of these sites and services work though, it seems a lot of them just copy and paste the entire article on a bunch of different websites. Is there any services or information you could recommend?

    Thanks again mate

I bought one last month from BHW and got bumps across the board in SERPS - though the true impact was hard to judge as Google rolled out their mobile update.

However, my URL rating on AHREFS has improved considerably as well. So far so good!

That's great Jesse! Have you checked out the websites to make sure they're actually newsworthy? Or are they poor quality?

Last time I used a press release service (several years ago, but full disclosure: it was WF), I recall that it had very random websites that had absolutely nothing to do with releasing news (think home improvement, random blogs and such).

There are 2 that are very good here that you can count on.

Check the reviews and the longevity of the BSTs for PRs.

I did notice that press releases helped me to rank some specific keyword targeting pages.
For example some keyword was ranking in around 50 position for my homepage, I created a page that has that focuses on that keyword and once I order a PR for that page that pages starts rankings instead of my home and usually it gets a higher position on search results. This might be a coincidence, but it happened at least 3 times.

Okay, I've found a service I'd like to try out and sent the seller a few questions, we'll see how this goes. Looks like the distro is on some pretty high profile sites, so perhaps it might lead to other link opportunities.

PR's are find... you can find them for less than $100. Distribution is the easy part... just be sure you PAY to have a good writer write it up.

Absolutely. You can't issue a single press release and expect results. I remind people all the time that Fortune 500 companies, including Google, issues press releases daily. They will never harm you if done correctly...

Now-a-days press releases are branding, validation, and credibility tools. If you have a good news release that is worth getting out, spend the money and distribute it through a reputable site. Make all links in your releases no-follow to avoid being penalized by Google.
