Are PBN links still effective in 2026?

PBN links can still work in some cases, especially in lower competition niches, but they are far less reliable and much riskier than before. Google has become much better at spotting patterns like shared footprints, recycled domains, unnatural link growth, and thin network sites.

I guess most people here would not say that PBN links are no longer useless as you can say there are still lots of buyers and sellers. But the game has changed dramatically. Google gets more smarter with its Spambrain, which means you get to outsmart it. A cheap backlink from spammed website can cost you a fortune but robust links which operates like 'white hat' can still boost your site.

From what I've seen, PBNs can still move rankings, but they seem a lot riskier and harder to maintain than they used to be. A poorly built network is usually easy to spot. For long-term projects, i'd be cautious. Are you testing on a fresh site or an established one?

PBNs can still be useful imo, but the footprint is what worries me. Clean domains, relevant content and keeping things natural seem more important than having a huge network.

Yes, PBN links can still work in 2026, but they are more risky than before. You have to care about quality relevance and also about not leaving obvious footprints , otherwise it can backfire. For long time SEO, I would not rely on PBNs as the primary approach.

One problem with PBNs is that if those sites lose their value or get hit, the links from them may stop helping your site too.

In my view, PBNs can still work in 2026, but the quality and relevance of the domain matter far more than metrics like DR/DA.
I’d focus on a clean history, genuine traffic, topical relevance, and a natural backlink profile rather than using PBNs purely for rankings.

I tested this on a small site last year by adding a handful of aged-domain links alongside the existing link profile. Rankings moved within a few weeks, but the weird part was that only the links from closely related sites seemed to stick. The generic PBN links showed almost no noticeable movement after the initial bump.
