Many developers tend to create Android apps over iOS because of the lower start up budget. iOS have many prerequirements, while for Android you only need a Developer Account and a good computer(or developer who will create it for you).
There are more android applications over iOs with an open code, making it easier to just grab it and reedit it towards your needs. Yes, the incredible number of different smartphones/tablets with different screen sizes and configurations makes it a pain in the ass, but it pays at the end. Android powered devices outrun iOS, and that is one more reason why more developers tend to choose Android over iOS.
Plus, applications in Play store(don't know if this also applies for iOS) are ranked locally, making it easier to rank for specific regions/countries.
This is just from my point of view. I'm currently studying Java, so Android developing is not far away from me. Thanks BigBuddy for taking the time to write this up, this is valuable information for those that want to jump towards apps - whether they are Android or iOS.
