Curious if anyone is using joomla? Any thoughts? If you are using it... any components? templates? plugins? etc?

I have used Joomla! in the past, I found it was more resource intensive than Wordpress and did not play that well on Shared hosting in my opinion ... it was slow. This was a few year back though, things may well have changed since then. I used it because at the time it was easier to make a multilingual site in Joomla! than Wordpress, there were better plugins available back then.

I recommend wordpress over joomla and drupal. I guess it's just preference and I have little experience with j & d.

my joomla sites do much better than my wp sites. I think it somewhat depends on which one you know how to configure better.

For joomla, I use k2 and zoo a lot, jomsocial is pretty damn amazing...
when I use an seo/urls component, I use sh404sef

any specific questions?

for large professional membership sites, I prefer Joomla.

I've used Joomla and Wordpress for a couple of movie sites I had in the past. Wordpress is much better. Better themes and more functionality in the back end, imo. I'd go with Wordpress. But I guess it depends on what you're doing with your site.

I sused to use joomle maybe 3 years ago, and it was ok. but believe me nowadays, wordpress is far away beter than joomla. You can find more recources, templates, themes, plugins, to suit all your needs. It alsa makes great job with google. I storngly advise you to go with wordpress..

Hi. I'm using Joomla as well as wp, prestashop, magento and some other cms-s.

Well, the best thing is - I love Joomla!!! :)

Best templates: rockettheme ans siteground (I like them). ... of course there are many other great developers as well.

If you have a problem with Joomla - pm me and I might be able to help you...

Have a great weekend all :)

it depends on what you are doing with the site. Generally, I use wordpress for smaller sites without a lot of specialized functionality. Joomla for bigger sites with a lot of overhead.

Joomla is more powerful, if you know what you are doing, but it is not for a simple niche or ecommerce site.

I was just curious what the consensus was in the community.... Seems like it may be overkill... But I am used to working with it so I was just going to keep on going with that plan...

Anyone use multisites? I went the basic joomla article route on my first site but am pretty sure that I am going to use K2 for my next project?!

Any components for helping with back-linking? or are you using the native joomla weblinks?

Any success or horror stories?

THX

I use k2 when I do anything that I want to look good!

I have been using Joomla for the last 4 years. I love joomla. As already mentioned Joomla is resource intensive and I prefer suing it for more professional sites. To me it has more advanced features than wordpress, which also makes it a bit more complex than wordpress.

Wordpress on the other hand is great for blog sites. I have seen people use wordpress in many ways than just for blogging.

Mainly it depends on you. Any one of them will do as long you know what you are doing.

I use Joomla and would recommend it for larger projects, like e-comm stores (virtuemart works get for me) and a couple other heavier forum/membership or multimedia type sites as well. But for my normal affiliate and day to day type projects i pretty much stick to WP since the resources are quite vast..
