Maybe connect a domain to blogspot for free hosting? Have seen some popular websites like this in the past.

Yes that is an option. I wanted to know the limitations of such an approach.
there wouldn't be availability to add private plugin or experience private policy, it does low the effect of ranking while using public server/hosting for blogging

Free hosting usually are unstable and go down many times a day, for my blog I don't even use a regular webhosting, I use a dedicated server for fast loading that one of the factors if U want Google to consider your page.

Unfortunately free hostings can be tricky. There are lots of scary stories about it, people who created a whole blog and then, it was shut down or stolen.
You should pay if you are serious about your project. There are some very cheap sharing hosting plans, even the worst one is better than a free hosting plan that can be a huge waste of time if something happens.

I used to use Blogspot, linked to a custom domain back in the years. It is limited and doesn’t provide lifetime ownership security as your blog may just vanish overnight. You do not own it, Google does.
Why not have a look at Hostkoala DirectAdmin hosting if you’re really on a tight budget? The last time I checked it’s only about $5 per year to start with.

Hello, generally speaking, if it is for testing or internal use, you can consider using free ones, but if it is open and you want to develop your own personal brand, then it is not recommended that you use free ones.

I would not advise you to go with free hosting because when things go well you can wake up with your site going down and you dont want that

You can go with free hosting. I think netlify works good. I may think, github also provide such service, not sure. But, if its starting website, you can try netlify.
