I just registered my first .us.org domain.
It's brand new but when I check the DA it's 87!
Any ideas why this is?

I think its Root domain authority. Actually you bought a sub domain.

OP its Root domain authority, Not your domain. 
You need to check PA of your domain as it count as sub domain of us.org. May be i am wrong.

DA/PA can easily be manipulated with spam, so it's not really a reliable metric. Besides that it seems more and more outdated these days (at least to me).

My PA is nothing at the moment as it's new. Just throws a question mark on all of these people selling high DA stuff.
