I have yet to see the low quality part.. seen many 500 word EMDs still ranking strong. Very frustrating when you're spending most of your money on content!

As Matt said, google targeted low quality EMD's.
The websites that I'm seeing that were hit the hardest really shoudl have been. Low quality content, low quality sites, and low quality backlinks. All this update did was remove the "EMD" boost that once existed.

If the last Google update has targeted low quality EMD's, how is it possible for the first page of results, when searching for viagra, to be poluted with EMD's labeled with "This site may be compromised"?
Yes...i know...one of the theories which explains this "phenomenon" says that G doesn't care for terms like viagra because they are not bringing so much money through AdSense. However, I don't think that they have implemented a list of keywords that the algo is using to check the quality of EMD's.
Could be me...but I think they have screwed things up...again.

Had an EMD that is a bit over a year old drop out of the rankings about two months ago. After the latest update it went to #8 now its at 7 or 6 - and I haven't touched it since I built the site.

Of course, this did not just remove the EMD boost
that's just retarded and clearly a sign of someone who's done absolutely no analysis.

Acne.Org looks pretty spammy/its use of the word acne is weird/not as prominent considering it is an acne site. I can see its EMD helping it.

I believe you are confusing "my EMDs got stronger" with "my competitors above me got nerfed"
Actually acne.org is an interesting case. If you look at incoming link authority it IS actually in the right place now - it had an artificial boost before. However, it absolutely is NOT a low quality EMD - it's just been reranked using the new authority ranking.
Cutts dissed a lot of excellent sites with his comment and it did a good job of muddying the waters, but the real danger from hereon is how very difficult it's going to be to rank pages that aren't sited on mega authority sites. Prepare for some very boring looking first pages on Google.
