Make sure that if you are leaving a seed (aka fake) review that its from a seasoned account with a separate private IP from that area. Make sure that while your google+ business page and google+local page are waiting to be merged that you update you business page which contains your address. Be sure to update once a week. In the back end of your google+ local (the edit map area) be sure to use that update box in the top right every 20-25 days. See the pastern ;)

While you are waiting for your google+ local page and google+ business page to merge you should be sure to update your listing with the update section inside your google+ local account.

The worst part about setting up Google places, in my opinion, is waiting on the verification process for your Places page.

A lot of business will have a automated system to answer their incoming phone calls and it will screw up the process of verifying it by phone. You can verify by a postcard that Google sends you, but it takes around 2 weeks to receive it, and once you finally receive it there is a possibility it gets lost in the office. I was able to verify my most recent Google Places by email, but first I had create a email account associated with the business I'm working for. After that it still took a week and a half for the listing to show up correctly in the dashboard.

It is so tedious but once it is verified and optimized your presence on Places is very valuable.
 
How is there so many people asking for this service when there are a few BST offering it?

yeah there are some great companies to outsource to for Google Places...check out SEO Reseller. I've used them before in the past and they've done good work.

Or if you want to cut cost, I would say you hire a VA and teach them.
